Here the rim of these [pressing stones] shakes them, as a wolf shakes a ewe. Under the rule of yonder heaven you have gone to heaven, you whose wealth is heaven.

I hold Agni to be the hotar: generous, son of strength, Jatavedas, like an inspired poet, Jatavedas. He, the god who performs the rite well, with his upright form turned toward the gods, longs for the blaze of the ghee, of the bright-flamed melted butter poured in offering.

O inspired one, O bright one, may we sacrificers call you, the best at sacrifice and eldest of the Angirases, with the thoughtful words of poets. You travel all around like the sky, you are hotar of the peoples, a flame-haired bull; may these clans spur you on to swift action.

Shining with radiant might among many, he becomes the one who overcomes deceit, like an axe overcoming deceit. When he clashes, even what is hard and firm gives way like trees; overpowering, he holds his ground and does not retreat, like an archer he does not retreat.
