उत् तिष्ठत सं नह्यध्वम् उदाराः केतुभिः सह ।सर्पा इतरजना रक्षांस्य् अमित्रान् अनु धावत

हे उदारो, उठो और अपने ध्वजों के साथ कमर कस लो। हे सर्पो, इतरजनो और राक्षसो, शत्रुओं के पीछे दौड़ो।

Rise up, you udāras, and arm yourselves along with your banners. Serpents, other-folk, demons: run after the enemies.

ईशां वो वेद राज्यं त्रिषन्धे अरुणैः केतुभिः सह ।ये अन्तरिक्षे ये दिवि पृथिव्यां ये च मानवाः ।त्रिषन्धेस् ते चेतसि दुर्णामान उपासताम्

हे लाल ध्वजों वाले त्रिषन्धि, मैं तुम्हारा प्रभुत्व और राज्य जानता हूँ। अन्तरिक्ष, द्युलोक और पृथ्वी पर जो हैं, और जो मनुष्य हैं, वे बुरे नाम वाले त्रिषन्धि की इच्छा के अधीन रहें।

Trishandhi with your ruddy banners, I know your lordship and your kingship. Those in the midspace, in the sky, on earth, and the human ones: let those of evil name wait on Trishandhi's will.

अयोमुखाः सूचीमुखा अथो विकङ्कतीमुखाः ।क्रव्यादो वातरंहस आ सजन्त्व् अमित्रान् वज्रेण त्रिषन्धिना

लोहे जैसे मुँह वाले, सुई जैसे मुँह वाले और विकंकती जैसे मुँह वाले, वायु के वेग वाले मांसभक्षी प्राणी तीन जोड़ों वाले वज्र के साथ शत्रुओं से चिपट जाएँ।

Iron-mouthed, needle-mouthed, and vikaṅkatī-mouthed, the flesh-eaters swift as the wind: let them fasten on the enemies with the three-jointed vajra.

अन्तर् धेहि जातवेद आदित्य कुणपं बहु ।त्रिषन्धेर् इयं सेना सुहितास्तु मे वशे

हे जातवेदस्, हे आदित्य, बहुत-से शव रख दो। त्रिषन्धि की यह सेना भली-भाँति मेरे वश में रहे।

Jatavedas, Aditya, put away many corpses. Let this army of Trishandhi be well set under my control.

उत् तिष्ठ त्वं देवजनार्बुदे सेनया सह ।अयं बलिर् व आहुतस् त्रिषन्धेर् आहुतिः प्रिया

हे देवजनों की अर्बुदि, तुम सेना के साथ उठो। यह बलि तुम्हें अर्पित की गई है; त्रिषन्धि की आहुति प्रिय है।

Rise up, Arbudi of the divine folk, together with your army. This tribute has been offered to you; Trishandhi's oblation is dear.

शितिपदी सं द्यतु शरव्ये᳙यं चतुष्पदी ।क्ŕ̥त्ये ऽमित्रेभ्यो भव त्रिषन्धेः सह सेनया

श्वेत पैरों वाली (शत्रुओं को) बाँध दे; यह चार पैरों वाली बाण-वर्षा है। हे कृत्या, त्रिषन्धि की सेना के साथ तुम शत्रुओं के विरुद्ध हो जाओ।

Let the white-footed one bind them together; this is the four-footed shower of arrows. Kṛtyā, turn against the enemies along with Trishandhi's army.

धूमाक्षी सं पततु कृधुकर्णी च क्रोशतु ।त्रिषन्धेः सेनया जिते अरुणाः सन्तु केतवः

धुएँ जैसी आँखों वाली झपटे, और कटे कानों वाली चीख़े। त्रिषन्धि की सेना से विजय होने पर ध्वज लाल हों।

Let the smoke-eyed one swoop down, and the crop-eared one shriek. When Trishandhi's army has won, let the banners be red.

अवायन्तां पक्षिणो ये वयांस्य् अन्तरिक्षे दिवि ये चरन्ति ।श्वापदो मक्षिकाः सं रभन्ताम् आमादो ग्ŕ̥ध्राः कुणपे रदन्ताम्

पंख वाले उतर आएँ, जो पक्षी अन्तरिक्ष और द्युलोक में विचरते हैं। हिंसक पशु और मक्खियाँ टूट पड़ें, कच्चा मांस खाने वाले गिद्ध शव को कुतरें।

Let the winged ones come down, the birds that roam the midspace and the sky. Let beasts of prey and flies set upon it; let the raw-flesh-eating vultures tear at the corpse.

याम् इन्द्रेण संधां समधत्था ब्रह्मणा च बृहस्पते ।तयाहम् इन्द्रसंधया सर्वान् देवान् इह हुव इतो जयत मामुतः

हे बृहस्पति, तुमने इन्द्र और ब्रह्म के साथ जो सन्धि की थी, उस इन्द्र-सन्धि से मैं यहाँ सब देवों को बुलाता हूँ। इस ओर से जीतो, उस ओर से नहीं।

Brihaspati, by the compact you made with Indra and with the brahman, by that Indra-compact I call all the gods here. Win from this side, not from that.

ब्ŕ̥हस्पतिर् आङ्गिरस ŕ̥षयो ब्रह्मसंशिताः ।असुरक्षयणं वधं त्रिषन्धिं दिव्य् आश्रयन् ॥१०॥ {२८}

आंगिरस बृहस्पति और ब्रह्म से तीक्ष्ण किए गए ऋषियों ने असुरों का नाश करने वाले अस्त्र त्रिषन्धि को द्युलोक में स्थापित किया।

Brihaspati Angirasa and the seers sharpened by the brahman set up in heaven the Asura-destroying weapon, Trishandhi.

येनासौ गुप्त आदित्य उभाव् इन्द्रश् च तिष्ठतः ।त्रिषन्धिं देवा अभजन्तौजसे च बलाय च

जिससे वह आदित्य और इन्द्र दोनों सुरक्षित खड़े हैं, उस त्रिषन्धि को देवों ने ओज और बल के लिए अपना भाग बनाया।

Trishandhi, by which yonder Aditya and Indra both stand protected, the gods took as their share for vigour and for strength.

सर्वांल् लोकान्त् सम् अजयन् देवा आहुत्यानया ।ब्ŕ̥हस्पतिर् आङ्गिरसो वज्रं यम् असिञ्चतासुरक्षयणं वधम्

इस आहुति से देवों ने सब लोक जीत लिए। यह वही असुर-नाशक अस्त्र, वज्र है जिसे आंगिरस बृहस्पति ने ढाला था।

With this oblation the gods conquered all the worlds. It is the vajra that Brihaspati Angirasa cast, the Asura-destroying weapon.

ब्ŕ̥हस्पतिर् आङ्गिरसो वज्रं यम् असिञ्चतासुरक्षयणं वधम् ।तेनाहम् अमूं सेनां नि लिम्पामि बृहस्पते ऽमित्रान् हन्म्य् ओजसा

आंगिरस बृहस्पति ने जो असुर-नाशक अस्त्र, वज्र, ढाला था, हे बृहस्पति, उससे मैं उस सेना को लीप देता हूँ और ओज से शत्रुओं को मारता हूँ।

The vajra that Brihaspati Angirasa cast, the Asura-destroying weapon: with it, Brihaspati, I smear yonder army, and with might I slay the enemies.

सर्वे देवा अत्यायन्ति ये अश्नन्ति वषट्कृतम् ।इमां जुषध्वम् आहुतिम् इतो जयत मामुतः

वषट् से अर्पित हवि खाने वाले सब देव (हमारी ओर) आ रहे हैं। इस आहुति को स्वीकार करो; इस ओर से जीतो, उस ओर से नहीं।

All the gods who eat what is offered with vaṣaṭ are coming over to us. Accept this oblation; win from this side, not from that.

सर्वे देवा अत्यायन्तु त्रिषन्धेर् आहुतिः प्रिया ।संधां महतीं रक्षत ययाग्रे असुरा जिताः

सब देव (हमारी ओर) आ जाएँ, त्रिषन्धि की आहुति प्रिय है। उस महान सन्धि की रक्षा करो जिससे पहले असुर जीते गए थे।

Let all the gods come over to us; Trishandhi's oblation is dear. Guard the great compact by which the Asuras were conquered long ago.

वायुर् अमित्राणाम् इष्वग्राण्य् आञ्चतु ।इन्द्र एषां बाहून् प्रति भनक्तु मा शकन् प्रतिधाम् इषुम् ।आदित्य एषाम् अस्त्रं वि नाशयतु चन्द्रमा युताम् अगतस्य पन्थाम्

वायु शत्रुओं के बाणों की नोकें मोड़ दे, इन्द्र उनकी भुजाएँ तोड़ दे ताकि वे बाण न चढ़ा सकें। आदित्य उनके अस्त्र नष्ट करे, और चन्द्रमा न आए हुए का मार्ग रोक दे।

Let Vayu bend back the enemies' arrow-points; let Indra break their arms so they cannot fit an arrow. Let Aditya destroy their missiles, and let Chandramas bar the path of the one who has not come.

यदि प्रेयुर् देवपुरा ब्रह्म वर्माणि चक्रिरे ।तनूपानं परिपाणं कृण्वाना यद् उपोचिरे सर्वं तद् अरसं कृधि

यदि वे देवताओं के दुर्गों में चले गए हों, यदि उन्होंने ब्रह्म को कवच बनाया हो, तो शरीर-रक्षा और चारों ओर की रक्षा करते हुए उन्होंने जो कुछ कहा है, वह सब निष्प्रभावी कर दो।

If they have gone into strongholds of the gods, if they have made brahman their armour, then whatever they recited to protect their bodies and to guard themselves all round, make it all powerless.

क्रव्यादानुवर्तयन् मृत्युना च पुरोहितम् ।त्रिषन्धे प्रेहि सेनया जयामित्रान् प्र पद्यस्व

हे त्रिषन्धि, मांसभक्षियों को पीछे चलाते हुए और मृत्यु के साथ आगे रखे गए तुम सेना के साथ आगे बढ़ो; शत्रुओं को जीतो, आगे चलो।

Trishandhi, leading the flesh-eaters in your train and set in front together with Death, go forth with your army; conquer the enemies, press forward.

त्रिषन्धे तमसा त्वम् अमित्रान् परि वारय ।पृषदाज्यप्रणुत्तानां मामीषां मोचि कश् चन

हे त्रिषन्धि, तुम शत्रुओं को अन्धकार से घेर लो। पृषदाज्य से भगाए गए इनमें से कोई भी न छूटे।

Trishandhi, surround the enemies with darkness. Of these, driven off by the speckled ghee, let not one escape.

शितिपदी सं पतत्व् अमित्राणाम् अमूः सिचः ।मुह्यन्त्व् अद्यामूः सेना अमित्राणां न्यर्बुदे ॥२०॥ {२९}

श्वेत पैरों वाली शत्रुओं के उन पार्श्वों पर टूट पड़े। हे न्यर्बुदि, शत्रुओं की वे सेनाएँ आज मोहित हो जाएँ।

Let the white-footed one fall upon those flanks of the enemies. Nyarbudi, let yonder armies of the enemies be bewildered today.

मूढा अमित्रा न्यर्बुदे जह्य् ए᳙षां वरंवरम् ।अनया जहि सेनया

हे न्यर्बुदि, शत्रु मोहित हो गए हैं। इनमें से हर श्रेष्ठ को मारो, इस सेना से मारो।

Nyarbudi, the enemies are bewildered. Kill the best of them one by one; kill them with this army.

यश् च कवची यश् चाकवचो᳙ ऽमित्रो यश् चाज्मनि ।ज्यापाशैः कवचपाशैर् अज्मनाभिहतः शयाम्

जो शत्रु कवच वाला है, जो बिना कवच का है, और जो धावे में है, वह प्रत्यंचा के फंदों और कवच के फंदों से, धावे से मारा जाकर पड़ा रहे।

The enemy with armour, the one without armour, and the one in the charge: struck down by bowstring-snares, by armour-snares, by the charge, let him lie.

ये वर्मिणो ये᳙ ऽवर्माणो अमित्रा ये च वर्मिणः ।सर्वांस् ताꣳ अर्बुदे हतां छ्वानो ऽदन्तु भूम्याम्

जो शत्रु कवचधारी हैं, जो बिना कवच के हैं, और जो कवचधारी हैं, हे अर्बुदि, उन सब मारे गए लोगों को कुत्ते भूमि पर खाएँ।

The enemies who wear armour, those without armour, and those who wear armour: Arbudi, let dogs eat all of them, slain, on the ground.

ये रथिनो ये अरथा असादा ये च सादिनः ।सर्वान् अदन्तु तान् हतान् ग्ŕ̥ध्राः श्येनाः पतत्रिणः

जो रथ वाले हैं, जो बिना रथ के हैं, जो बिना सवारी के हैं और जो सवार हैं, उन सब मारे गए लोगों को गिद्ध, बाज़ और पक्षी खाएँ।

Those with chariots and those without, those on foot and those mounted: let vultures, falcons, and birds eat all of them, slain.

सहस्रकुणपा शेताम् आमित्री सेना समरे वधानाम् ।विविद्धा ककजाकृता

शत्रु की सेना अस्त्रों के युद्ध में हज़ार शवों वाली होकर पड़ी रहे, बिंधी हुई और टुकड़े-टुकड़े की हुई।

Let the enemy army lie with a thousand corpses in the clash of weapons, pierced through and hacked to pieces.

मर्माविधं रोरुवतं सुपर्णैर् अदन्तु दुश्चितं मृदितं शयानम् ।य इमां प्रतीचीम् आहुतिम् अमित्रो नो युयुत्सति

मर्मस्थान में बिंधे, चीख़ते, कुचले हुए, पड़े हुए उस दुष्ट को सुपर्ण पक्षियों के साथ (पशु) खाएँ, उस शत्रु को जो हमारी इस लौटाई गई आहुति से लड़ना चाहता है।

Pierced in the vitals, howling, crushed, lying there, the wretch: let them eat him, with the eagles, the enemy who seeks to fight this oblation of ours turned back against him.

यां देवा अनुतिष्ठन्ति यस्या नास्ति विराधनम् ।तयेन्द्रो हन्तु वृत्रहा वज्रेण त्रिषन्धिना ॥२७॥ {३०}

जिसका देव अनुसरण करते हैं और जिसकी कोई विफलता नहीं है, उस तीन जोड़ों वाले वज्र से वृत्रहा इन्द्र (शत्रुओं को) मारे।

With that which the gods follow and which never fails, the three-jointed vajra, let Indra the Vritra-slayer strike.
