उच्छिष्ट की महिमाPraise of the Ucchiṣṭa (Remainder)

उच्छिष्टे नाम रूपं चोच्छिष्टे लोक आहितः ।उच्छिष्ट इन्द्रश् चाग्निश् च विश्वम् अन्तः समाहितम्

उच्छिष्ट में नाम और रूप हैं, उच्छिष्ट में लोक स्थापित है। उच्छिष्ट में इन्द्र और अग्नि हैं; सब कुछ इसके भीतर समाया है।

In the Ucchiṣṭa are name and form; in the Ucchiṣṭa the world is set. In the Ucchiṣṭa are Indra and Agni; everything is gathered within it.

उच्छिष्टे द्यावापृथिवी विश्वं भूतं समाहितम् ।आपः समुद्र उच्छिष्टे चन्द्रमा वात आहितः

उच्छिष्ट में द्युलोक और पृथ्वी, सारे प्राणी समाए हैं। जल, समुद्र, चन्द्रमा और वायु उच्छिष्ट में स्थापित हैं।

In the Ucchiṣṭa heaven and earth and all beings are gathered. The waters, the ocean, the moon and the wind are set in the Ucchiṣṭa.

सन्न् उच्छिष्टे असंश् चोभौ मृत्युर् वाजः प्रजापतिः ।लौक्या उच्छिष्ट आयत्ता व्रश् च द्रश् चापि श्रीर् मयि

सत् और असत् दोनों, मृत्यु, वाज (बल) और प्रजापति उच्छिष्ट में हैं। लोक के प्राणी उच्छिष्ट पर टिके हैं; 'व्र' और 'द्र' भी, और श्री मुझमें हो।

Both being and non-being are in the Ucchiṣṭa, and death, vigour and Prajāpati. The creatures of the world depend on the Ucchiṣṭa, and so do vra and dra; and may fortune be in me.

दृढो दृंह स्थिरो न्यो ब्रह्म विश्वस्ŕ̥जो दश ।नाभिम् इव सर्वतश् चक्रम् उच्छिष्टे देवताः श्रिताः

दृढ़, दृढ़ करने वाला, स्थिर, 'न्य', ब्रह्म और दस विश्व-स्रष्टा — जैसे पहिया चारों ओर से नाभि पर टिका होता है, वैसे ही देवता उच्छिष्ट पर टिके हैं।

The firm one, the one who makes firm, the steady one, the nya, brahman, the ten world-makers: the gods rest on the Ucchiṣṭa as a wheel rests on all sides on its hub.

ŕ̥क् साम यजुर् उच्छिष्ट उद्गीथः प्रस्तुतं स्तुतम् ।हिङ्कार उच्छिष्टे स्वरः साम्नो मेडिश् च तन् मयि

ऋक्, साम और यजुस् उच्छिष्ट में हैं, साथ ही उद्गीथ, प्रस्तुत और स्तुत भी। हिङ्कार, साम का स्वर और 'मेडि' भी उच्छिष्ट में हैं — वह मुझमें हो।

The ṛc, the sāman and the yajus are in the Ucchiṣṭa, and so are the udgītha, the prastuta and the stuta. The hiṅkāra, the tone of the sāman and its meḍi are in the Ucchiṣṭa; may that be in me.

ऐन्द्राग्नं पावमानं महानाम्नीर् महाव्रतम् ।उच्छिष्टे यज्ञस्याङ्गान्य् अन्तर् गर्भ इव मातरि

ऐन्द्राग्न, पावमान, महानाम्नी ऋचाएँ और महाव्रत — यज्ञ के ये अंग उच्छिष्ट के भीतर वैसे ही हैं जैसे माता में गर्भ।

The Aindrāgna, the Pāvamāna, the Mahānāmnī verses and the Mahāvrata: these limbs of the sacrifice lie within the Ucchiṣṭa like an embryo within its mother.

राजसूयं वाजपेयम् अग्निष्टोमष् तद् अध्वरः ।अर्काश्वमेधाव् उच्छिष्टे जीवबर्हिर् मदिन्तमः

राजसूय, वाजपेय, अग्निष्टोम और वह अध्वर, अर्क और अश्वमेध, और अत्यन्त आनन्द देने वाला जीवबर्हि उच्छिष्ट में हैं।

The Rājasūya, the Vājapeya, the Agniṣṭoma and that adhvara, the arka and the Aśvamedha, and the most gladdening jīvabarhis are in the Ucchiṣṭa.

अग्न्याधेयम् अथो दीक्षा कामप्रश् छन्दसा सह ।उत्सन्ना यज्ञाः सत्राण्य् उच्छिष्टे ऽधि समाहिताः

अग्न्याधेय, दीक्षा, छन्द के साथ कामना पूरी करने वाला यज्ञ, लुप्त हो चुके यज्ञ और सत्र — ये सब उच्छिष्ट पर समाए हैं।

The setting up of the fires and the consecration, the wish-fulfilling rite with its metre, the discontinued sacrifices and the sattras are all gathered upon the Ucchiṣṭa.

अग्निहोत्रं च श्रद्धा च वषट्कारो व्रतं तपः ।दक्षिणेष्टं पूर्तं चोच्छिष्टे ऽधि समाहिताः

अग्निहोत्र और श्रद्धा, वषट्कार, व्रत और तप, दक्षिणा, इष्ट और पूर्त — ये उच्छिष्ट पर समाए हैं।

The agnihotra and faith, the vaṣaṭ call, the vow and tapas, the priestly fee, sacrifice and pious works are gathered upon the Ucchiṣṭa.

एकरात्रो द्विरात्रः सद्यःक्रीः प्रक्रीर् उक्थ्यः᳙ ।ओतं निहितम् उच्छिष्टे यज्ञस्याणूनि विद्यया ॥१०॥ {१९}

एकरात्र, द्विरात्र, सद्यःक्री, प्रक्री और उक्थ्य — यज्ञ के ये सूक्ष्म अंग ज्ञान के द्वारा उच्छिष्ट में पिरोए और रखे गए हैं।

The one-night rite, the two-night rite, the sadyaḥkrī, the prakrī and the ukthya: these fine parts of the sacrifice are woven into the Ucchiṣṭa and stored there through knowledge.

चतूरात्रः पञ्चरात्रः षड्रात्रश् चोभयः सह ।षोडशी सप्तरात्रश् चोच्छिष्टाज् जज्ञिरे सर्वे ये यज्ञा अम्ŕ̥ते हिताः

चतूरात्र, पञ्चरात्र, दोनों प्रकार का षड्रात्र, षोडशी और सप्तरात्र — अमृत में स्थापित ये सभी यज्ञ उच्छिष्ट से उत्पन्न हुए।

The four-night, five-night and six-night rites, both kinds together, the ṣoḍaśin and the seven-night rite: all the sacrifices set in the immortal were born from the Ucchiṣṭa.

प्रतीहारो निधनं विश्वजिच् चाभिजिच् च यः ।साह्नातिरात्राव् उच्छिष्टे द्वादशाहो ऽपि तन् मयि

प्रतीहार, निधन, विश्वजित्, अभिजित्, साह्न, अतिरात्र और द्वादशाह भी उच्छिष्ट में हैं — वह मुझमें हो।

The pratīhāra and the nidhana, the Viśvajit and the Abhijit, the Sāhna and the Atirātra, and the twelve-day rite too are in the Ucchiṣṭa; may that be in me.

सून्ŕ̥ता संनतिः क्षेमः स्वधोर्जाम्ŕ̥तं सहः ।उच्छिष्टे सर्वे प्रत्यञ्चः कामाः कामेन तातृपुः

मधुर वाणी, नम्रता, कुशल-क्षेम, स्वधा, ऊर्ज, अमृत और सहस् उच्छिष्ट में हैं। वहाँ सामने आने वाली सारी कामनाएँ काम से तृप्त हुईं।

Pleasant speech, submission, security, svadhā, nourishment, immortality and might are in the Ucchiṣṭa. In it all the desires turned toward it were satisfied by desire.

नव भूमीः समुद्रा उच्छिष्टे ऽधि श्रिता दिवः ।आ सूर्यो भात्य् उच्छिष्टे ऽहोरात्रे अपि तन् मयि

नौ भूमियाँ, समुद्र और द्युलोक उच्छिष्ट पर टिके हैं। उच्छिष्ट में सूर्य चमकता है; दिन और रात भी उसी में हैं — वह मुझमें हो।

The nine earths, the oceans and the heavens rest upon the Ucchiṣṭa. In the Ucchiṣṭa the sun shines, and day and night too are in it; may that be in me.

उपहव्यं विषूवन्तं ये च यज्ञा गुहा हिताः ।बिभर्ति भर्ता विश्वस्योच्छिष्टो जनितुः पिता

उपहव्य, विषुवत् और गुहा में रखे यज्ञ — इन सबको उच्छिष्ट धारण करता है, जो सबका भरण करने वाला और जन्म देने वाले का पिता है।

The upahavya, the viṣūvant and the sacrifices hidden in secret are all borne by the Ucchiṣṭa, the sustainer of all, father of the begetter.

पिता जनितुर् उच्छिष्टो ऽसोः पौत्रः पितामहः ।स क्षियति विश्वस्येशानो व्ŕ̥षा भूम्याम् अतिघ्न्यः᳙

उच्छिष्ट जन्म देने वाले का पिता है, असु (प्राण) का पौत्र और पितामह है। वह सबका स्वामी बनकर पृथ्वी पर बसता है, एक अत्यन्त अवध्य वृषभ के रूप में।

The Ucchiṣṭa is father of the begetter, grandson and grandfather of the life-breath. He dwells as lord of all, a bull on the earth that is beyond harm.

ऋतं सत्यं तपो राष्ट्रं श्रमो धर्मश् च कर्म च ।भूतं भविष्यद् उच्छिष्टे वीर्यं᳙ लक्ष्मीर् बलं बले

ऋत, सत्य, तप, राष्ट्र, श्रम, धर्म, कर्म, भूत और भविष्य उच्छिष्ट में हैं; वीर्य, लक्ष्मी और बल में बल भी।

Ṛta, truth, tapas, the realm, toil, dharma and action, past and future are in the Ucchiṣṭa; so are valour, fortune, and strength within strength.

समृद्धिर् ओज आकूतिः क्षत्रं राष्ट्रं षड् उर्व्यः᳙ ।संवत्सरो ऽध्य् उच्छिष्ट इडा प्रैषा ग्रहा हविः

समृद्धि, ओज, संकल्प, क्षत्र, राष्ट्र, छह विस्तार (दिशाएँ) और संवत्सर उच्छिष्ट पर हैं; इडा, प्रैष, ग्रह और हवि भी।

Prosperity, vigour, intention, ruling power, the realm, the six expanses and the year are upon the Ucchiṣṭa; so are iḍā, the ritual calls, the soma cups and the oblation.

चतुर्होतार आप्रियश् चातुर्मास्यानि नीविदः ।उच्छिष्टे यज्ञा होत्राः पशुबन्धास् तद् इष्टयः

चतुर्होतृ, आप्री ऋचाएँ, चातुर्मास्य और निविद् — उच्छिष्ट में यज्ञ, होत्राएँ, पशुबन्ध और इष्टियाँ हैं।

The caturhotṛ formulas, the āprī verses, the four-monthly rites and the nivids; in the Ucchiṣṭa are the sacrifices, the priestly offices, the animal offerings and the iṣṭis.

अर्धमासाश् च मासाश् चार्तवा ऋतुभिः सह ।उच्छिष्टे घोषिणीर् आप स्तनयित्नुः श्रुतिर् मही ॥२०॥ {२०}

अर्धमास, मास और ऋतुओं के साथ ऋतु-विभाग; उच्छिष्ट में गरजते जल, मेघ-गर्जन और महान श्रुति हैं।

The half-months and the months, the seasonal periods with the seasons; in the Ucchiṣṭa are the roaring waters, the thunder and the great sound.

शर्कराः सिकता अश्मान ओषधयो वीरुधस् त्ŕ̥णा ।अभ्राणि विद्युतो वर्षम् उच्छिष्टे संश्रिता श्रिता

कंकड़, रेत, पत्थर, ओषधियाँ, लताएँ, घास, बादल, बिजलियाँ और वर्षा — ये सब उच्छिष्ट पर आश्रित और टिके हैं।

Gravel, sand, stones, plants, creepers and grasses, clouds, lightnings and rain all lean on the Ucchiṣṭa and rest on it.

राद्धिः प्राप्तिः समाप्तिर् व्या᳙प्तिर् मह एधतुः ।अत्याप्तिर् उच्छिष्टे भूतिश् चाहिता निहिता हिता

सिद्धि, प्राप्ति, समाप्ति, व्याप्ति, महिमा, वृद्धि, अत्याप्ति और समृद्धि उच्छिष्ट में रखी, स्थापित और धरी गई हैं।

Success, attainment, completion, pervasion, greatness, growth, over-attainment and prosperity are placed, deposited and set in the Ucchiṣṭa.

यच् च प्राणति प्राणेन यच् च पश्यति चक्षुषा ।उच्छिष्टाज् जज्ञिरे सर्वे दिवि देवा दिविश्रितः

जो प्राण से साँस लेता है और जो आँख से देखता है — वे सब उच्छिष्ट से उत्पन्न हुए, द्युलोक में रहने वाले सब देवता भी।

Whatever breathes with breath and whatever sees with the eye were all born from the Ucchiṣṭa, and so were all the gods in heaven who dwell in heaven.

ŕ̥चः सामानि छन्दांसि पुराणं यजुषा सह ।उच्छिष्टाज् जज्ञिरे सर्वे दिवि देवा दिविश्रितः

ऋचाएँ, साम, छन्द और यजुस् के साथ पुराण — वे सब उच्छिष्ट से उत्पन्न हुए, द्युलोक में रहने वाले सब देवता भी।

The verses, the chants, the metres, and the ancient lore together with the yajus were all born from the Ucchiṣṭa, and so were all the gods in heaven who dwell in heaven.

प्राणापानौ चक्षुः श्रोत्रम् अक्षितिश् च क्षितिश् च या ।उच्छिष्टाज् जज्ञिरे सर्वे दिवि देवा दिविश्रितः

प्राण और अपान, आँख, कान, अक्षयता और क्षय — वे सब उच्छिष्ट से उत्पन्न हुए, द्युलोक में रहने वाले सब देवता भी।

In-breath and out-breath, eye and ear, imperishability and perishing were all born from the Ucchiṣṭa, and so were all the gods in heaven who dwell in heaven.

आनन्दा मोदाः प्रमुदो ऽभीमोदमुदश् च ये ।उच्छिष्टाज् जज्ञिरे सर्वे दिवि देवा दिविश्रितः

आनन्द, मोद, प्रमोद और जो अभिमोद से प्रसन्न होते हैं — वे सब उच्छिष्ट से उत्पन्न हुए, द्युलोक में रहने वाले सब देवता भी।

Joys, delights, rejoicings, and those who take pleasure in delight were all born from the Ucchiṣṭa, and so were all the gods in heaven who dwell in heaven.

देवाः पितरो मनुष्या᳙ गन्धर्वाप्सरसश् च ये ।उच्छिष्टाज् जज्ञिरे सर्वे दिवि देवा दिविश्रितः ॥२७॥ {२१}

देवता, पितर, मनुष्य, गन्धर्व और अप्सराएँ — वे सब उच्छिष्ट से उत्पन्न हुए, द्युलोक में रहने वाले सब देवता भी।

Gods, fathers, humans, Gandharvas and Apsarases were all born from the Ucchiṣṭa, and so were all the gods in heaven who dwell in heaven.
