आदित्याः

इ॒मा गिर॑ आदि॒त्येभ्यो॑ घृ॒तस्नूः॑ स॒नाद्राज॑भ्यो जु॒ह्वा॑ जुहोमि ।शृ॒णोतु॑ मि॒त्रो अ॑र्य॒मा भगो॑ नस्तुविजा॒तो वरु॑णो॒ दक्षो॒ अंशः॑

घृत से सनी ये स्तुतियाँ मैं जुहू (हवन-चम्मच) से उन आदित्यों के लिए अर्पित करता हूँ, जो प्राचीन काल से राजा हैं। मित्र, अर्यमा, भग, बलशाली वरुण, दक्ष और अंश हमारी (यह वाणी) सुनें।

With the ladle I pour out these songs, dripping with ghee, to the Adityas, who have been kings from of old. May Mitra, Aryaman and Bhaga hear us, and Varuna of mighty birth, Daksha and Amsha.

इ॒मं स्तोमं॒ सक्र॑तवो मे अ॒द्य मि॒त्रो अ॑र्य॒मा वरु॑णो जुषन्त ।आ॒दि॒त्यासः॒ शुच॑यो॒ धार॑पूता॒ अवृ॑जिना अनव॒द्या अरि॑ष्टाः

एक ही संकल्प वाले मित्र, अर्यमा और वरुण आज मेरे इस स्तोत्र को प्रसन्न होकर स्वीकार करें — वे आदित्य, जो शुद्ध हैं, धारा से छने हुए जल के समान निर्मल, कुटिलता से रहित, निर्दोष और अक्षत हैं।

Today may Mitra, Aryaman and Varuna, who share one will, welcome this praise of mine: the Adityas, bright, purified as if by streams, without crookedness, without fault, unharmed.

त आ॑दि॒त्यास॑ उ॒रवो॑ गभी॒रा अद॑ब्धासो॒ दिप्स॑न्तो भूर्य॒क्षाः ।अ॒न्तः प॑श्यन्ति वृजि॒नोत सा॒धु सर्वं॒ राज॑भ्यः पर॒मा चि॒दन्ति॑

वे आदित्य विशाल, गम्भीर, किसी से न छले जा सकने वाले, (दुष्टों को) छलने की इच्छा रखने वाले और बहुत आँखों वाले हैं। वे कुटिल और सीधा — दोनों को भीतर तक देख लेते हैं; इन राजाओं के लिए सबसे दूर की चीज़ भी पास ही है।

These Adityas are broad and deep. No one can deceive them, yet they set out to deceive the deceivers, and they have many eyes. They see into what is crooked and what is straight. To the kings, everything is near, even what is farthest away.

धा॒रय॑न्त आदि॒त्यासो॒ जग॒त्स्था दे॒वा विश्व॑स्य॒ भुव॑नस्य गो॒पाः ।दी॒र्घाधि॑यो॒ रक्ष॑माणा असु॒र्य॑मृ॒तावा॑न॒श्चय॑माना ऋ॒णानि॑

आदित्य चलते और स्थिर — दोनों जगत् को धारण करते हैं; वे देव सारे भुवन के रक्षक हैं, दूर तक सोचने वाले, अपने असुरत्व (प्रभुत्व) की रक्षा करने वाले, ऋत के पालक और (मनुष्यों के) ऋणों का हिसाब लेने वाले हैं।

The Adityas uphold all that moves and all that stands still. They are gods, herdsmen of the whole world, far-sighted in thought, guarding their lordship (asurya), true to ṛta (the cosmic order), keeping account of debts.

वि॒द्यामा॑दित्या॒ अव॑सो वो अ॒स्य यद॑र्यमन्भ॒य आ चि॑न्मयो॒भु ।यु॒ष्माकं॑ मित्रावरुणा॒ प्रणी॑तौ॒ परि॒ श्वभ्रे॑व दुरि॒तानि॑ वृज्याम्

हे आदित्यो, हम तुम्हारी इस रक्षा को जानें, हे अर्यमन्, जो भय में भी सुख देने वाली है। हे मित्र और वरुण, तुम्हारे मार्गदर्शन में मैं संकटों को गड्ढों की तरह बचाकर छोड़ दूँ।

Adityas, may I come to know this help of yours, Aryaman, which brings comfort even in danger. Under your guidance, Mitra and Varuna, may I steer around troubles as one steers around pits.

सु॒गो हि वो॑ अर्यमन्मित्र॒ पन्था॑ अनृक्ष॒रो व॑रुण सा॒धुरस्ति॑ ।तेना॑दित्या॒ अधि॑ वोचता नो॒ यच्छ॑ता नो दुष्परि॒हन्तु॒ शर्म॑

हे अर्यमन्, हे मित्र, तुम्हारा मार्ग सुगम है; हे वरुण, वह काँटों से रहित और सीधा है। हे आदित्यो, उसी मार्ग से हमारे पक्ष में बोलो और हमें ऐसा आश्रय दो जिसे तोड़ना कठिन हो।

Aryaman and Mitra, your path is easy to travel; Varuna, it is free of thorns and straight. Adityas, by that path speak up for us, and give us shelter that is hard to break.

पिप॑र्तु नो॒ अदि॑ती॒ राज॑पु॒त्राति॒ द्वेषां॑स्यर्य॒मा सु॒गेभिः॑ ।बृ॒हन्मि॒त्रस्य॒ वरु॑णस्य॒ शर्मोप॑ स्याम पुरु॒वीरा॒ अरि॑ष्टाः

जिसके पुत्र राजा हैं, वह अदिति हमें पार ले जाए और अर्यमा सुगम मार्गों से शत्रुताओं के पार पहुँचाए। हम मित्र और वरुण के विशाल आश्रय में, बहुत वीर पुत्रों वाले और अक्षत बने रहें।

May Aditi, whose sons are kings, carry us past all hostility, and may Aryaman do so by easy paths. May we reach the wide shelter of Mitra and Varuna, rich in heroes and unharmed.

ति॒स्रो भूमी॑र्धारय॒न्त्रीँरु॒त द्यून्त्रीणि॑ व्र॒ता वि॒दथे॑ अ॒न्तरे॑षाम् ।ऋ॒तेना॑दित्या॒ महि॑ वो महि॒त्वं तद॑र्यमन्वरुण मित्र॒ चारु॑

वे तीन पृथ्वियों और तीन द्युलोकों को धारण करते हैं; उनके भीतर, उनकी सभा में, तीन व्रत हैं। हे आदित्यो, ऋत के बल पर तुम्हारी महिमा बड़ी है; हे अर्यमन्, हे वरुण, हे मित्र, वह सुन्दर है।

They uphold three earths and three heavens, and within them are three commandments (vrata) at the ritual assembly. Through ṛta, Adityas, your greatness is great. That greatness is lovely, Aryaman, Varuna, Mitra.

त्री रो॑च॒ना दि॒व्या धा॑रयन्त हिर॒ण्ययाः॒ शुच॑यो॒ धार॑पूताः ।अस्व॑प्नजो अनिमि॒षा अद॑ब्धा उरु॒शंसा॑ ऋ॒जवे॒ मर्त्या॑य

उन्होंने तीन दिव्य ज्योतिर्मण्डलों को धारण किया है; वे स्वर्णमय, शुद्ध, धारा से छने हुए जल के समान निर्मल, नींद में न पड़ने वाले, पलक न झपकाने वाले, अपराजेय और सरल मनुष्य के लिए दूर-दूर तक प्रशंसित हैं।

They uphold the three bright realms of heaven. They are golden, shining, purified as if by streams; they never sleep and never blink; no one can deceive them, and the upright mortal hears their praise far and wide.

त्वं विश्वे॑षां वरुणासि॒ राजा॒ ये च॑ दे॒वा अ॑सुर॒ ये च॒ मर्ताः॑ ।श॒तं नो॑ रास्व श॒रदो॑ वि॒चक्षेऽ॒श्यामायूं॑षि॒ सुधि॑तानि॒ पूर्वा॑

हे वरुण, तुम उन सबके राजा हो — जो देव हैं और जो मनुष्य हैं, हे असुर। हमें सौ शरद् ऋतुएँ देखने को दो; हम पूर्वजों के वे सुव्यवस्थित आयु-काल प्राप्त करें।

Varuna, you are king of all, lord, both of those who are gods and of those who are mortals. Grant us a hundred autumns to look on; may we reach full, well-founded lifespans like those of the past.

न द॑क्षि॒णा वि चि॑किते॒ न स॒व्या न प्रा॒चीन॑मादित्या॒ नोत प॒श्चा ।पा॒क्या॑ चिद्वसवो धी॒र्या॑ चिद्यु॒ष्मानी॑तो॒ अभ॑यं॒ ज्योति॑रश्याम्

हे आदित्यो, मुझे न दाहिना सूझता है न बायाँ, न आगे न पीछे। हे वसुओ, चाहे मैं अनाड़ीपन से करूँ या समझदारी से, तुम्हारे द्वारा ले जाया जाकर मैं निर्भय ज्योति प्राप्त करूँ।

I cannot tell right from left, Adityas, nor what is ahead from what is behind. Whether I act from simple-mindedness or from wisdom, good ones, may I, led by you, reach the light that is free of fear.

यो राज॑भ्य ऋत॒निभ्यो॑ द॒दाश॒ यं व॒र्धय॑न्ति पु॒ष्टय॑श्च॒ नित्याः॑ ।स रे॒वान्या॑ति प्रथ॒मो रथे॑न वसु॒दावा॑ वि॒दथे॑षु प्रश॒स्तः

जो ऋत के मार्ग पर चलने वाले इन राजाओं को हवि देता है, और जिसे निरन्तर समृद्धियाँ बढ़ाती हैं, वह धनवान् होकर रथ से सबसे आगे चलता है, धन देने वाला होता है और सभाओं में प्रशंसित होता है।

The man who has made offerings to the kings who guide ṛta, the man whom lasting prosperity makes grow, goes first in his chariot. He is wealthy, a giver of goods, and praised in the assemblies.

शुचि॑र॒पः सू॒यव॑सा॒ अद॑ब्ध॒ उप॑ क्षेति वृ॒द्धव॑याः सु॒वीरः॑ ।नकि॒ष्टं घ्न॒न्त्यन्ति॑तो॒ न दू॒राद्य आ॑दि॒त्यानां॒ भव॑ति॒ प्रणी॑तौ

वह शुद्ध और अपराजेय पुरुष जल और अच्छे चरागाहों के पास बसता है, लम्बी आयु और अच्छे पुत्रों वाला होता है। जो आदित्यों के मार्गदर्शन में है, उसे न पास से कोई मारता है, न दूर से।

Pure and undeceived, he lives by waters with good pasture, reaching a ripe age, blessed with fine sons. No one strikes him down, from near or from far, if he lives under the Adityas' guidance.

अदि॑ते॒ मित्र॒ वरु॑णो॒त मृ॑ळ॒ यद्वो॑ व॒यं च॑कृ॒मा कच्चि॒दागः॑ ।उ॒र्व॑श्या॒मभ॑यं॒ ज्योति॑रिन्द्र॒ मा नो॑ दी॒र्घा अ॒भि न॑श॒न्तमि॑स्राः

हे अदिति, हे मित्र, हे वरुण, तुम्हारे प्रति हमने जो कोई अपराध किया हो, उसे क्षमा करो। हे इन्द्र, मैं विस्तृत निर्भय ज्योति प्राप्त करूँ; लम्बे अन्धकार हम तक न पहुँचें।

Aditi, Mitra and Varuna, be gracious to us if we have committed any offence against you. Indra, may I reach the wide light that is free of fear; do not let the long darknesses overtake us.

उ॒भे अ॑स्मै पीपयतः समी॒ची दि॒वो वृ॒ष्टिं सु॒भगो॒ नाम॒ पुष्य॑न् ।उ॒भा क्षया॑वा॒जय॑न्याति पृ॒त्सूभावर्धौ॑ भवतः सा॒धू अ॑स्मै

उसके लिए साथ जुड़े हुए दोनों (आकाश और पृथ्वी) आकाश की वृष्टि को बढ़ाते हैं, और वह ‘सौभाग्यशाली’ नाम पाकर फलता-फूलता है। वह दोनों निवासों को जीतते हुए युद्धों में जाता है, और दोनों पक्ष उसके लिए अनुकूल हो जाते हैं।

Heaven and earth together swell with plenty for him, as he thrives on the rain from heaven, 'Fortunate' by name. He goes through battles winning both dwelling-places, and both halves of the world turn out well for him.

या वो॑ मा॒या अ॑भि॒द्रुहे॑ यजत्राः॒ पाशा॑ आदित्या रि॒पवे॒ विचृ॑त्ताः ।अ॒श्वीव॒ ताँ अति॑ येषं॒ रथे॒नारि॑ष्टा उ॒रावा शर्म॑न्स्याम

हे यजनीय आदित्यो, तुम्हारी जो मायाएँ और जो पाश द्रोह करने वाले तथा शत्रु के लिए फैलाए गए हैं — घोड़ों वाले रथ की तरह मैं उनके पार निकल जाऊँ; हम अक्षत रहकर विस्तृत आश्रय में रहें।

Worshipful Adityas, the tricks (māyā) you hold ready for the treacherous and the snares you have spread for the enemy: may I drive past them like a horseman in his chariot. May we stay unharmed in your wide shelter.

माहं म॒घोनो॑ वरुण प्रि॒यस्य॑ भूरि॒दाव्न॒ आ वि॑दं॒ शून॑मा॒पेः ।मा रा॒यो रा॑जन्सु॒यमा॒दव॑ स्थां बृ॒हद्व॑देम वि॒दथे॑ सु॒वीराः॑

हे वरुण, प्रिय, उदार और बहुत देने वाले बन्धु का अभाव मुझे न भोगना पड़े। हे राजन्, मैं सुगमता से सँभाले जाने वाले धन से वंचित न हो जाऊँ; हम वीर पुत्रों के साथ यज्ञ-सभा में उच्च स्वर से स्तुति करें।

Varuna, let me never feel the lack of a dear, generous patron, rich in gifts, who is a friend to me. King, let me not be cut off from wealth that is well kept. Rich in heroes, may we speak loudly at the ritual assembly.
