Where is that hero? Who has seen Indra, driven by his two fallow horses on his smooth-running chariot? The mace-bearer, called on by many, comes seeking the pressed soma, bringing wealth and help to that home.

I have looked down on his hidden, fearsome track, searching for the trail of the one who sets things in place. I asked others, and they told me: 'Once we men have woken up to him, we will reach Indra.'

Now, at the pressing, let us proclaim the deeds you have done, Indra, the ones you have enjoyed from us. Let whoever does not know learn of them, and whoever knows listen: this bounteous one is coming with his whole army.

As soon as you were born, Indra, you made your mind firm. Alone, you go out to fight even many. By your strength you burst even the rock apart, and you found the enclosure of the ruddy cows.

You were born the highest, far beyond, bearing a name that was heard far and wide. From that time on the gods have feared Indra. He won all the waters that had the Dāsa as their master.

For you alone these kindly Maruts sing a chant and press the soma plant. With his own magic powers Indra overcame the wily serpent who lay in wait upon the waters.

From your very birth you drove the scorners far away, advancing the gift. You struck, bounteous one, longing for the cows, when you wrenched off the head of the Dāsa Namuci, seeking a path for Manu.

For you made me your companion, Indra, just when you were twisting off the head of the Dāsa Namuci. And the rock rolling along with a roar, you set it moving, as if it were the two worlds turning like wheels for the Maruts.

For the Dāsa made women his weapons. 'What can his feeble armies do to me?' Indra saw through both of his women, and then he went forward to fight the Dasyu.

Then the cows lowed together on every side, here and there, when they had been separated from their calves. Indra brought them back together with his mighty helpers, when the well-pressed soma juices had made him drunk with joy.

When the soma juices stirred by Babhru had made him drunk with joy, the bull bellowed in the seats of sacrifice. Having drunk of it, Indra, the breaker of fortresses, gave back the ruddy cows.

Agni, the Ruśamas have done a fine thing in giving four thousand cows. We have accepted the gifts offered by Ṛṇaṃcaya, the manliest of men.

Agni, the Ruśamas sent me home well adorned, with thousands of cows. The sharp pressed soma juices made Indra drunk with joy at the dawning after the perilous night.

That perilous night has dawned which came at King Ṛṇaṃcaya's, among the Ruśamas. Like a swift racehorse urged on, Babhru has won four thousand.

Agni, we have received four thousand head of cattle among the Ruśamas. And the metal cauldron that was heated for the Pravṛj rite, we poets have taken it too.
