इन्द्रः

इ॒त्था हि सोम॒ इन्मदे॑ ब्र॒ह्मा च॒कार॒ वर्ध॑नम् ।शवि॑ष्ठ वज्रि॒न्नोज॑सा पृथि॒व्या निः श॑शा॒ अहि॒मर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

सोम के मद में ही ब्रह्मा (स्तोता) ने यह वर्धक स्तुति रची — हे अत्यन्त बली वज्रधारी, तूने अपने ओज से अहि (वृत्र) को पृथ्वी से बाहर खदेड़ दिया; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

In this way, in the exhilaration of soma, the priest-poet has made a hymn to strengthen you. Mightiest one, mace-bearer, with your force you drove the serpent from the earth, chanting along with your self-rule.

स त्वा॑मद॒द्वृषा॒ मदः॒ सोमः॑ श्ये॒नाभृ॑तः सु॒तः ।येना॑ वृ॒त्रं निर॒द्भ्यो ज॒घन्थ॑ वज्रि॒न्नोज॒सार्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

उस वृषा (बलशाली) मद ने तुझे मत्त किया — श्येन द्वारा लाया गया, निचोड़ा हुआ सोम — जिससे हे वज्रिन्, तूने अपने ओज से वृत्र को जलों से बाहर निकालकर मार डाला; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

That bullish, exhilarating soma, brought by the falcon and pressed, has exhilarated you, mace-bearer. With it you struck Vṛtra away from the waters with your force, chanting along with your self-rule.

प्रेह्य॒भी॑हि धृष्णु॒हि न ते॒ वज्रो॒ नि यं॑सते ।इन्द्र॑ नृ॒म्णं हि ते॒ शवो॒ हनो॑ वृ॒त्रं जया॑ अ॒पोऽर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

आगे बढ़, सामने जा, साहस दिखा — तेरा वज्र रोका नहीं जा सकता। हे इन्द्र, तेरा बल पौरुष से भरा है; वृत्र को मार, जलों को जीत ले; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

Go forward, attack, be bold! Your mace will not be held back. Indra, your strength is manly power: kill Vṛtra and win the waters, chanting along with your self-rule.

निरि॑न्द्र॒ भूम्या॒ अधि॑ वृ॒त्रं ज॑घन्थ॒ निर्दि॒वः ।सृ॒जा म॒रुत्व॑ती॒रव॑ जी॒वध॑न्या इ॒मा अ॒पोऽर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

हे इन्द्र, तूने वृत्र को भूमि से भी और द्युलोक से भी बाहर खदेड़कर मार डाला। मरुतों से युक्त इन जीवनदायी जलों को नीचे बहा दे; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

Indra, you struck Vṛtra away from the earth and away from heaven. Let these waters flow down, accompanied by the Maruts and nourishing living things, chanting along with your self-rule.

इन्द्रो॑ वृ॒त्रस्य॒ दोध॑तः॒ सानुं॒ वज्रे॑ण हीळि॒तः ।अ॒भि॒क्रम्याव॑ जिघ्नतेऽ॒पः सर्मा॑य चो॒दय॒न्नर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

क्रुद्ध इन्द्र ने आगे बढ़कर, प्रहार करते हुए वृत्र की पीठ (शिखर) पर वज्र से नीचे की ओर मारा, और जलों को बहने के लिए प्रेरित किया; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

Indra, enraged, steps up to the raging Vṛtra and strikes down on his back with the mace, driving the waters to flow, chanting along with his self-rule.

अधि॒ सानौ॒ नि जि॑घ्नते॒ वज्रे॑ण श॒तप॑र्वणा ।म॒न्दा॒न इन्द्रो॒ अन्ध॑सः॒ सखि॑भ्यो गा॒तुमि॑च्छ॒त्यर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

सौ गाँठों वाले वज्र से वह (वृत्र के) शिखर पर प्रहार करता है। सोमरस से मत्त हुआ इन्द्र अपने सखाओं के लिए मार्ग खोजता है; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

He strikes down on his back with the hundred-jointed mace. Exhilarated by the soma stalk, Indra seeks a way forward for his comrades, chanting along with his self-rule.

इन्द्र॒ तुभ्य॒मिद॑द्रि॒वोऽनु॑त्तं वज्रिन्वी॒र्य॑म् ।यद्ध॒ त्यं मा॒यिनं॑ मृ॒गं तमु॒ त्वं मा॒यया॑वधी॒रर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

हे वज्रधारी इन्द्र, हे पाषाण-अस्त्रधारी, तेरा वीर्य अप्रतिहत है — जब तूने उस मायावी मृग को अपनी ही माया से मार डाला; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

To you alone, Indra, lord of the stone and mace-bearer, belongs heroic strength that none can repel, since you killed that wily beast with your own cunning, chanting along with your self-rule.

वि ते॒ वज्रा॑सो अस्थिरन्नव॒तिं ना॒व्या॒३॒॑ अनु॑ ।म॒हत्त॑ इन्द्र वी॒र्यं॑ बा॒ह्वोस्ते॒ बलं॑ हि॒तमर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

तेरे वज्र नब्बे नदियों पर फैल गए। हे इन्द्र, तेरा वीर्य महान् है, तेरी बाहुओं में बल रखा हुआ है; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

Your maces spread out along ninety navigable rivers. Great is your heroic strength, Indra; power is set in your arms, chanting along with your self-rule.

स॒हस्रं॑ सा॒कम॑र्चत॒ परि॑ ष्टोभत विंश॒तिः ।श॒तैन॒मन्व॑नोनवु॒रिन्द्रा॑य॒ ब्रह्मोद्य॑त॒मर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

हजार (स्तोता) एक साथ स्तुति करो, बीस चारों ओर जयघोष करें; सैकड़ों ने उसका बार-बार अनुगान किया — इन्द्र के लिए स्तुति ऊपर उठाई गई है; (स्तोता) उसके स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

A thousand of you, chant together; twenty of you, cry out praise all around. Hundreds have roared out to him again and again; the sacred formulation has been raised up for Indra, chanting along with his self-rule.

इन्द्रो॑ वृ॒त्रस्य॒ तवि॑षीं॒ निर॑ह॒न्सह॑सा॒ सहः॑ ।म॒हत्तद॑स्य॒ पौंस्यं॑ वृ॒त्रं ज॑घ॒न्वाँ अ॑सृज॒दर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

इन्द्र ने अपने बल से वृत्र के बल को, उसकी शक्ति को नष्ट कर दिया। यही उसका महान् पौरुष है — वृत्र को मारकर उसने (जलों को) छोड़ दिया; (स्तोता) उसके स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

Indra struck down Vṛtra's power, overpowering might with might. Great is this manly deed of his: having killed Vṛtra, he let the waters loose, chanting along with his self-rule.

इ॒मे चि॒त्तव॑ म॒न्यवे॒ वेपे॑ते भि॒यसा॑ म॒ही ।यदि॑न्द्र वज्रि॒न्नोज॑सा वृ॒त्रं म॒रुत्वाँ॒ अव॑धी॒रर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

ये दोनों महान् लोक (द्यावा-पृथिवी) भी तेरे क्रोध से भयभीत होकर काँप उठे, जब हे वज्रिन् इन्द्र, मरुतों के साथ तूने अपने ओज से वृत्र को मारा; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

Even these two great ones tremble with fear at your fury, when you, Indra, mace-bearer, with the Maruts beside you, killed Vṛtra with your force, chanting along with your self-rule.

न वेप॑सा॒ न त॑न्य॒तेन्द्रं॑ वृ॒त्रो वि बी॑भयत् ।अ॒भ्ये॑नं॒ वज्र॑ आय॒सः स॒हस्र॑भृष्टिराय॒तार्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

न अपने कँपाने से, न गर्जन से वृत्र इन्द्र को डरा सका। उस पर लोहे का, सहस्र धारों वाला वज्र आ पड़ा; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

Vṛtra did not frighten Indra, neither with his trembling nor with his thundering. The iron mace with a thousand spikes came at him, chanting along with your self-rule.

यद्वृ॒त्रं तव॑ चा॒शनिं॒ वज्रे॑ण स॒मयो॑धयः ।अहि॑मिन्द्र॒ जिघां॑सतो दि॒वि ते॑ बद्बधे॒ शवोऽर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

जब तूने वृत्र को और उसकी अशनि को अपने वज्र से भिड़ाया — हे इन्द्र, अहि को मारने को उद्यत तेरा बल द्युलोक में दृढ़ हो गया; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

When you made Vṛtra and your missile fight it out, using your mace, your might was fixed firm in heaven as you set out to kill the serpent, Indra, chanting along with your self-rule.

अ॒भि॒ष्ट॒ने ते॑ अद्रिवो॒ यत्स्था जग॑च्च रेजते ।त्वष्टा॑ चि॒त्तव॑ म॒न्यव॒ इन्द्र॑ वेवि॒ज्यते॑ भि॒यार्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

हे वज्रधारी, तेरी गर्जना से जो कुछ स्थिर है और जो चलता है, सब काँप उठता है। हे इन्द्र, त्वष्टा तक तेरे क्रोध से भय के मारे थरथरा जाता है; (स्तोता) तेरे स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

At your roar, lord of the stone, when all that stands still and all that moves trembles, even Tvaṣṭar shakes with fear at your fury, Indra, chanting along with your self-rule.

न॒हि नु याद॑धी॒मसीन्द्रं॒ को वी॒र्या॑ प॒रः ।तस्मि॑न्नृ॒म्णमु॒त क्रतुं॑ दे॒वा ओजां॑सि॒ सं द॑धु॒रर्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

हमारी समझ जहाँ तक जाती है, वीर्य में इन्द्र से बढ़कर कोई नहीं। देवताओं ने उसी में पौरुष, क्रतु और ओज — सब एकत्र कर दिया; (स्तोता) उसके स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

For we know of no one beyond Indra: who surpasses him in heroic deeds? In him the gods placed together manly power, resolve, and strengths, chanting along with his self-rule.

यामथ॑र्वा॒ मनु॑ष्पि॒ता द॒ध्यङ् धिय॒मत्न॑त ।तस्मि॒न्ब्रह्मा॑णि पू॒र्वथेन्द्र॑ उ॒क्था सम॑ग्म॒तार्च॒न्ननु॑ स्व॒राज्य॑म्

अथर्वा, पिता मनु और दध्यङ् ने जिस स्तुति को फैलाया था, उसी इन्द्र में पहले की तरह सब स्तुतियाँ और उक्थ आ मिले हैं; (स्तोता) उसके स्वराज्य की स्तुति करते हुए।

The poetic vision that Atharvan, father Manu, and Dadhyañc spun out: in that same Indra, as of old, the sacred formulations and hymns came together, chanting along with his self-rule.
