Agni, immortal one, bring the dawn's brilliant, radiant bounty to the worshipper. Jatavedas, bring here today the gods who wake at dawn.

For you are the welcome messenger, Agni, the carrier of offerings, the charioteer of the rites. Together with the Ashvins and Ushas, give us strength in heroes and great fame.

Today we choose as our messenger the good Agni, dear to many, with smoke for his banner and light for his adornment, the glory of the rites at the dawnings of the sacrifices.

  4. ४

At the dawnings I invoke Agni Jatavedas, the best and youngest, the guest, well offered to, welcome to the man who worships, so that he will go to the gods.

  5. ५

I will praise you, immortal one, nourisher of all: Agni, the immortal protector, worthy of sacrifice, the best at sacrificing, carrier of offerings.

Youngest one, honey-tongued and well offered to, be well disposed to the one who praises you, and take notice. Lengthen Praskanva's lifespan so that he may live, and pay homage to the divine folk.

  7. ७

For the clans kindle you, the hotar who knows all. Agni, invoked by many, bring the attentive gods here quickly.

For you are lord of the rites, Agni, and messenger of the clans. Bring here today, to drink the soma, the gods who wake at dawn and look on the sun.

Agni, rich in radiance, you have shone throughout the earlier dawns, visible to all. You are the protector in the settlements; you are the purohita in the rites, the one who belongs to men.

God Agni, as Manu did, we set you in place as the accomplisher of the sacrifice, the hotar, the priest who sacrifices at the right seasons: attentive, swift, the immortal messenger.

When you, the gods' purohita, whose greatness is that of a friend, go between them on your mission as messenger, Agni's flames blaze out like the roaring waves of a river.

  13. १३

Hear us, Agni, you whose ears listen, together with the gods who drive with you as conveyors. Let Mitra, Aryaman, and the gods who travel at early morning sit on the sacred grass at the rite.

Let the Maruts, generous givers, hear our praise song. Agni is their tongue, and they strengthen truth. Let Varuna, whose commands are fixed, drink the soma, together with the Ashvins and Ushas.
