इन्द्र:

स पू॒र्व्यो म॒हानां॑ वे॒नः क्रतु॑भिरानजे ।यस्य॒ द्वारा॒ मनु॑ष्पि॒ता दे॒वेषु॒ धिय॑ आन॒जे

वह (इन्द्र) महान देवों में प्राचीन और चाहा जाने वाला है, और (हमारे) कर्मों तथा स्तुतियों से सजाया जाता है — जिसके द्वारों से मनुष्यों के पिता (मनु) ने देवों के बीच अपनी स्तुतियाँ पहुँचाईं।

He, the ancient seeker among the great ones, has been anointed with acts of will. Through his doors father Manu drove his insights to the gods.

दि॒वो मानं॒ नोत्स॑द॒न्सोम॑पृष्ठासो॒ अद्र॑यः ।उ॒क्था ब्रह्म॑ च॒ शंस्या॑

सोम से भरी पीठ वाले (सोम कूटने के) पत्थर आकाश की ऊँचाई तक उठ गए हैं; अब उक्थ और ब्रह्म (स्तोत्र) कहे जाने चाहिए।

The pressing stones, with soma on their backs, have risen up like the measure of heaven. Hymns and sacred formulations are to be recited.

स वि॒द्वाँ अङ्गि॑रोभ्य॒ इन्द्रो॒ गा अ॑वृणो॒दप॑ ।स्तु॒षे तद॑स्य॒ पौंस्य॑म्

उस जानने वाले इन्द्र ने अङ्गिरसों के लिए (गुफा खोलकर) गायों को मुक्त किया; उसके उस पौरुष की मैं स्तुति करता हूँ।

Indra, knowing the way, opened up the cows for the Angirases. I praise this manly deed of his.

स प्र॒त्नथा॑ कविवृ॒ध इन्द्रो॑ वा॒कस्य॑ व॒क्षणिः॑ ।शि॒वो अ॒र्कस्य॒ होम॑न्यस्म॒त्रा ग॒न्त्वव॑से

पहले की ही तरह, कवियों के साथ बढ़ने वाला और वाणी को आगे बढ़ाने वाला इन्द्र, स्तोत्र के आह्वान पर प्रसन्न होकर हमारी रक्षा के लिए यहाँ आए।

Indra, strengthened by poets as in the old days and bearer of the spoken word, is kind at the offering of the chant. May he come to us to help us.

आदू॒ नु ते॒ अनु॒ क्रतुं॒ स्वाहा॒ वर॑स्य॒ यज्य॑वः ।श्वा॒त्रम॒र्का अ॑नूष॒तेन्द्र॑ गो॒त्रस्य॑ दा॒वने॑

हे इन्द्र, तेरी इच्छा के अनुसार 'स्वाहा' कहते हुए यजन करने वालों ने, और स्तोताओं ने बल देने वाला गीत गाया — गोशाला (गायों) को खोल देने के लिए।

Now, following your will, Indra, the sacrificers' chants have cried out with 'svāhā' to the invigorating drink, so that you will give the herd of cows as the chosen prize.

इन्द्रे॒ विश्वा॑नि वी॒र्या॑ कृ॒तानि॒ कर्त्वा॑नि च ।यम॒र्का अ॑ध्व॒रं वि॒दुः

किए हुए और आगे किए जाने वाले सब वीर-कर्म इन्द्र में ही हैं — जिसे स्तोता यज्ञ (के स्वामी) के रूप में जानते हैं।

In Indra are all heroic deeds, those already done and those still to be done. The chants know him as the rite itself.

यत्पाञ्च॑जन्यया वि॒शेन्द्रे॒ घोषा॒ असृ॑क्षत ।अस्तृ॑णाद्ब॒र्हणा॑ वि॒पो॒३ऽ॒॑र्यो मान॑स्य॒ स क्षयः॑

जब पाँचों जनों की प्रजा के साथ इन्द्र की ओर स्तुति-घोष छोड़े गए, तब उसने अपने बल से शत्रु की हिलती (शक्तियों) को गिरा दिया — वही (हमारे) घर का आश्रय है।

When the clan of the five peoples sent their cries surging to Indra, he struck down the [foes] with his might. He is the home of Māna, the loyal one.

इ॒यमु॑ ते॒ अनु॑ष्टुतिश्चकृ॒षे तानि॒ पौंस्या॑ ।प्राव॑श्च॒क्रस्य॑ वर्त॒निम्

यह स्तुति तेरे लिए है; वे पौरुष-कर्म तूने ही किए हैं। तूने (रथ के) चक्र की गति को आगे बढ़ाया।

This is the praise that follows you: you performed those manly deeds. You sped the track of the wheel along.

अ॒स्य वृष्णो॒ व्योद॑न उ॒रु क्र॑मिष्ट जी॒वसे॑ ।यवं॒ न प॒श्व आ द॑दे

इस वृषभ (इन्द्र) के अन्न (ओदन) के सहारे (स्तोता) जीने के लिए दूर तक पग बढ़ाए; जैसे पशु के लिए जौ, वैसे उसने उसे ग्रहण किया।

When this bull poured out, he took wide strides so that there might be life. He took it up as livestock take barley.

तद्दधा॑ना अव॒स्यवो॑ यु॒ष्माभि॒र्दक्ष॑पितरः ।स्याम॑ म॒रुत्व॑तो वृ॒धे

उस (बल) को धारण करते हुए, रक्षा चाहते हुए और तुम्हारे कारण सामर्थ्य पाकर — हम मरुतों वाले इन्द्र की वृद्धि के लिए (तैयार) हों।

Holding to that and seeking help, with skill as our father through you, may we serve to strengthen the one accompanied by the Maruts.

बळृ॒त्विया॑य॒ धाम्न॒ ऋक्व॑भिः शूर नोनुमः ।जेषा॑मेन्द्र॒ त्वया॑ यु॒जा

हे शूर, ठीक समय पर मिलने वाले (सोम-) भाग के लिए हम स्तोताओं के साथ ऊँचे स्वर में तुझे पुकारते हैं; हे इन्द्र, तुझे साथी बनाकर हम जीतें।

Truly, hero, we and the chanters keep roaring praise to your domain, which comes at its proper season. With you as our yoke-mate, Indra, may we win.

अ॒स्मे रु॒द्रा मे॒हना॒ पर्व॑तासो वृत्र॒हत्ये॒ भर॑हूतौ स॒जोषाः॑ ।यः शंस॑ते स्तुव॒ते धायि॑ प॒ज्र इन्द्र॑ज्येष्ठा अ॒स्माँ अ॑वन्तु दे॒वाः

रुद्रगण और पर्वत (मेघ) वृत्र-वध में तथा युद्ध के आह्वान में एक मन होकर उदारता से हमारे साथ रहें; जो (बल) शंसन और स्तुति करने वाले के लिए दृढ़ सहारा बनकर रखा गया — इन्द्र जिनमें श्रेष्ठ है, वे देव हमारी रक्षा करें।

On our side are the Rudras and the bountiful mountains, united at the smashing of Vritra and at the call to the contest. The sturdy one has been set in place for the one who recites and praises. May the gods, with Indra as their chief, help us.
