The bull-strong exhilaration is in Indra, and the ritual call and the hymns along with the soma drinks, in him who drinks the pressed soma and takes the soma dregs. The generous one deserves praise from men with hymns: the heavenly king of songs, whose help never runs out.

He overcomes all, a hero, manly, discerning; he hears the call of the one who praises him, and his help reaches far. Good is he, the praise of men, sustainer of poets; when praised, the prize-winner gives a prize at the ritual gathering.

Like an axle beyond its two wheels, hero, your greatness has reached past the two worlds by its might. Like the branches of a tree, Indra, invoked by many, your many forms of help have grown out in every direction.

Your powers, mighty one of many powers, run together like the paths of cattle. Like the cords that tie calves, Indra, your gifts are bound and yet unbound, O good giver.

One deed today, another tomorrow: in an instant Indra makes what is not into what is. Mitra, Varuna and Pushan are here for us, and he is the one who overcomes the will of the stranger.

As waters are drawn from a mountain's back, Indra, so men have drawn good things out of you with hymns and sacrifices. Seeking prizes with these fine praises, they have come to you like horses to a race, you who are carried by songs.

Indra is the one whom autumns do not age, nor months, nor days wear down. Great as he already is, may his body grow greater still as it is praised with praise-songs and hymns.

When praised, he does not bow to the hard, nor to the firm, nor to the bold one urged on by the Dasyu. To Indra even lofty mountains are open plains; even in the deep there is a ford for him.
- ९
With your deep, wide hand, mighty one, hold out to us refreshment and prizes, drinker of the pressed soma. Stand upright to help us, never failing, at the dawning after the night, at the time of danger.

Stay with this man to help him in close combat, or protect him from harm when he is away from here, Indra. Protect him from harm at home and in the wilderness. May we rejoice for a hundred winters, with good sons.
