अग्नि :

त्वं हि क्षैत॑व॒द्यशोऽग्ने॑ मि॒त्रो न पत्य॑से ।त्वं वि॑चर्षणे॒ श्रवो॒ वसो॑ पु॒ष्टिं न पु॑ष्यसि

हे अग्नि, तुम भूमि के स्वामी जैसा यश रखते हो और मित्र के समान (हमारे) अधिपति हो। हे सर्वदर्शी, हे वसु, तुम कीर्ति को वैसे बढ़ाते हो जैसे कोई अपनी समृद्धि बढ़ाता है।

For you, Agni, like Mitra, are master of a glory made of settled homes. You, good one, who watch over the peoples, make fame flourish as one makes livestock flourish.

त्वां हि ष्मा॑ चर्ष॒णयो॑ य॒ज्ञेभि॑र्गी॒र्भिरीळ॑ते ।त्वां वा॒जी या॑त्यवृ॒को र॑ज॒स्तूर्वि॒श्वच॑र्षणिः

हे अग्नि, मनुष्य यज्ञों और स्तुति-वचनों से तुम्हारी ही अर्चना करते हैं। तुम्हारे पास वह बलवान घोड़ा आता है, जो किसी की हिंसा नहीं करता, अन्तरिक्ष को पार करता है और सब मनुष्यों का है।

For the peoples praise you with sacrifices and hymns. To you comes the prize-winning steed, free from wolves, crossing the middle air, belonging to all peoples.

स॒जोष॑स्त्वा दि॒वो नरो॑ य॒ज्ञस्य॑ के॒तुमि॑न्धते ।यद्ध॒ स्य मानु॑षो॒ जनः॑ सुम्ना॒युर्जु॒ह्वे अ॑ध्व॒रे

स्वर्ग के पुरुष मिलकर तुम्हें, यज्ञ के ध्वज को, प्रज्वलित करते हैं, जब यह मनुष्य-जाति कृपा की इच्छा से यज्ञ में (तुम्हें) पुकारती है।

In unison the men of heaven kindle you, the banner of the sacrifice, when this human folk, seeking your favour, calls to you at the rite.

ऋध॒द्यस्ते॑ सु॒दान॑वे धि॒या मर्तः॑ श॒शम॑ते ।ऊ॒ती ष बृ॑ह॒तो दि॒वो द्वि॒षो अंहो॒ न त॑रति

जो मनुष्य तुम उदार दानी के लिए श्रद्धा से यज्ञ-कर्म करता है, वह समृद्ध होता है; वह ऊँचे स्वर्ग की सहायता से शत्रुता की बाधा को, संकरी जगह को पार करने की तरह, पार कर जाता है।

May the mortal thrive who labours with insight for you, the generous giver. With the help of lofty heaven he crosses over hatreds as if over a narrow strait.

स॒मिधा॒ यस्त॒ आहु॑तिं॒ निशि॑तिं॒ मर्त्यो॒ नश॑त् ।व॒याव॑न्तं॒ स पु॑ष्यति॒ क्षय॑मग्ने श॒तायु॑षम्

जो मनुष्य लकड़ी (समिधा) के साथ तुम्हारे लिए आहुति और तुम्हारा प्रदीपन पूरा करता है, हे अग्नि, वह सन्तान से भरा और सौ वर्ष की आयु वाला घर पाता-बढ़ाता है।

The mortal who brings you the offering with kindling wood, the offering that sharpens you, Agni, makes his house prosper, rich in offspring and lasting a hundred years.

त्वे॒षस्ते॑ धू॒म ऋ॑ण्वति दि॒वि षञ्छु॒क्र आत॑तः ।सूरो॒ न हि द्यु॒ता त्वं कृ॒पा पा॑वक॒ रोच॑से

तुम्हारा चमकीला धुआँ ऊपर उठता है और आकाश में शुभ्र होकर फैल जाता है; हे पावक, तुम सूर्य के समान अपनी दीप्ति और अपने रूप से चमकते हो।

Your blazing smoke rises up, spreading out bright across the sky. For like the sun with its radiance, you shine with beauty, purifier.

अधा॒ हि वि॒क्ष्वीड्योऽसि॑ प्रि॒यो नो॒ अति॑थिः ।र॒ण्वः पु॒री॑व॒ जूर्यः॑ सू॒नुर्न त्र॑य॒याय्यः॑

इसलिए तुम मनुष्यों में स्तुति के योग्य हो, हमारे प्रिय अतिथि हो; तुम गढ़ में (रहनेवाले) वृद्ध के समान सुखद हो, और रक्षा के योग्य पुत्र के समान (प्रिय) हो।

For you are the one to be invoked among the clans, our dear guest. You are delightful like an old man in a stronghold, and to be protected like a son.

क्रत्वा॒ हि द्रोणे॑ अ॒ज्यसेऽग्ने॑ वा॒जी न कृत्व्यः॑ ।परि॑ज्मेव स्व॒धा गयोऽत्यो॒ न ह्वा॒र्यः शिशुः॑

हे अग्नि, तुम काष्ठ-पात्र में सामर्थ्य के साथ (घृत से) सींचे जाते हो, कर्मठ बलवान घोड़े के समान। तुम अपने ही स्वभाव से चारों ओर घूमनेवाले (वायु) के समान हो, और टेढ़ी चाल चलनेवाले नन्हे बछेड़े के समान हो।

For you are anointed with skill in the wooden vessel, Agni, like a racehorse that gets things done. Like the circling wind you are vital force by your own nature, a child, like a steed that has to be held back.

त्वं त्या चि॒दच्यु॒ताग्ने॑ प॒शुर्न यव॑से ।धामा॑ ह॒ यत्ते॑ अजर॒ वना॑ वृ॒श्चन्ति॒ शिक्व॑सः

हे अग्नि, तुम उन अचल (वृक्षों) को भी चर जाते हो, जैसे पशु चरागाह में चरता है — जब हे अजर, हे कुशल, तुम्हारी ज्वालाएँ वनों को काट गिराती हैं।

You, Agni, devour even things that cannot be shaken, like a beast in the pasture, when your flames, unageing one, cut down the forests with skill.

वेषि॒ ह्य॑ध्वरीय॒तामग्ने॒ होता॒ दमे॑ वि॒शाम् ।स॒मृधो॑ विश्पते कृणु जु॒षस्व॑ ह॒व्यम॑ङ्गिरः

हे अग्नि, तुम यज्ञ करनेवालों के पास जाते हो और मनुष्यों के घर में होता बनकर (कर्म करते) हो। हे प्रजाओं के स्वामी, हमें समृद्धियाँ दो; हे अङ्गिरस्, हमारी हव्य-आहुति स्वीकार करो।

For you pursue the offerings of those who wish to hold the rite, Agni, as hotar in the home of the clans. Make them prosper, lord of the clans; enjoy the oblation, Angiras.

अच्छा॑ नो मित्रमहो देव दे॒वानग्ने॒ वोचः॑ सुम॒तिं रोद॑स्योः ।वी॒हि स्व॒स्तिं सु॑क्षि॒तिं दि॒वो नॄन्द्वि॒षो अंहां॑सि दुरि॒ता त॑रेम॒ ता त॑रेम॒ तवाव॑सा तरेम

हे मित्र के समान महान देव अग्नि, हमारी ओर से देवों से कहो और दोनों लोकों की कृपा (हमें दिलाओ)। कल्याण और अच्छा निवास ले आओ, स्वर्ग के देव-पुरुषों तक जाओ। हम शत्रुता, संकट और विपत्तियों को पार करें, उन्हें पार करें, तुम्हारी सहायता से पार करें।

God Agni, great like Mitra, speak to the gods on our behalf, and win us the goodwill of the two worlds. Bring well-being and good dwelling from heaven to our men. May we cross over hatreds, distresses and hardships; may we cross them; with your help may we cross them.
