कः(प्रजापतिः)

हि॒र॒ण्य॒ग॒र्भः सम॑वर्त॒ताग्रे॑ भू॒तस्य॑ जा॒तः पति॒रेक॑ आसीत् ।स दा॑धार पृथि॒वीं द्यामु॒तेमां कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम

सृष्टि के आरम्भ में हिरण्यगर्भ प्रकट हुआ; उत्पन्न होते ही वह जो कुछ है उस सबका एकमात्र स्वामी था। उसी ने इस पृथ्वी और इस आकाश को धारण किया — हम किस देवता को हवि देकर पूजें?

In the beginning the Golden Embryo came into being. Once born, he was the one lord of all that exists. He held fast the earth and this heaven. To which god should we offer worship with our oblation?

य आ॑त्म॒दा ब॑ल॒दा यस्य॒ विश्व॑ उ॒पास॑ते प्र॒शिषं॒ यस्य॑ दे॒वाः ।यस्य॑ छा॒यामृतं॒ यस्य॑ मृ॒त्युः कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम

जो प्राण देने वाला और बल देने वाला है, जिसके आदेश की सब उपासना करते हैं, जिसके शासन को देव भी मानते हैं; जिसकी छाया अमरता है और जिसकी छाया मृत्यु भी — हम किस देवता को हवि देकर पूजें?

He gives life and gives strength. All beings attend on his command, and so do the gods. His shadow is immortality, and his shadow is death. To which god should we offer worship with our oblation?

यः प्रा॑ण॒तो नि॑मिष॒तो म॑हि॒त्वैक॒ इद्राजा॒ जग॑तो ब॒भूव॑ ।य ईशे॑ अ॒स्य द्वि॒पद॒श्चतु॑ष्पदः॒ कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम

जो अपनी महिमा से श्वास लेने वाले और आँख झपकाने वाले इस सारे जगत् का एकमात्र राजा हुआ; जो इन दो पैर वाले और चार पैर वाले प्राणियों पर शासन करता है — हम किस देवता को हवि देकर पूजें?

By his greatness he became the one king of the moving world, of all that breathes and blinks. He rules over its two-footed and four-footed creatures. To which god should we offer worship with our oblation?

यस्ये॒मे हि॒मव॑न्तो महि॒त्वा यस्य॑ समु॒द्रं र॒सया॑ स॒हाहुः ।यस्ये॒माः प्र॒दिशो॒ यस्य॑ बा॒हू कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम

जिसकी महिमा से ये हिमाच्छादित पर्वत हैं, जिसका समुद्र है और, कहते हैं, रसा नदी के साथ सब जल है; जिसकी ये दिशाएँ हैं, जिसकी ये दोनों भुजाएँ हैं — हम किस देवता को हवि देकर पूजें?

These snowy mountains are his by his greatness. People say the ocean is his, together with the Rasā. These directions are his, and they are his two arms. To which god should we offer worship with our oblation?

येन॒ द्यौरु॒ग्रा पृ॑थि॒वी च॑ दृ॒ळ्हा येन॒ स्वः॑ स्तभि॒तं येन॒ नाकः॑ ।यो अ॒न्तरि॑क्षे॒ रज॑सो वि॒मानः॒ कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम

जिसके कारण आकाश प्रबल है और पृथ्वी दृढ़ है, जिसने सूर्यलोक को और ऊपर के स्वर्ग को थामा; जो अन्तरिक्ष में फैले लोक का मापने वाला है — हम किस देवता को हवि देकर पूजें?

By him the mighty heaven and the earth were made firm. By him the sun's light was propped up, and so was the vault of the sky. In the midspace he measures out the realm of air. To which god should we offer worship with our oblation?

यं क्रन्द॑सी॒ अव॑सा तस्तभा॒ने अ॒भ्यैक्षे॑तां॒ मन॑सा॒ रेज॑माने ।यत्राधि॒ सूर॒ उदि॑तो वि॒भाति॒ कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम

जिसके सहारे से थमे हुए दोनों लोक काँपते मन से जिसकी ओर देखते रहे; जहाँ ऊपर उदित सूर्य चमकता है — हम किस देवता को हवि देकर पूजें?

Held firm by his help, the two crying hosts looked to him, trembling in their minds. On him the risen sun shines out. To which god should we offer worship with our oblation?

आपो॑ ह॒ यद्बृ॑ह॒तीर्विश्व॒माय॒न्गर्भं॒ दधा॑ना ज॒नय॑न्तीर॒ग्निम् ।ततो॑ दे॒वानां॒ सम॑वर्त॒तासु॒रेकः॒ कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम

जब विशाल जल सारे विश्व को गर्भ के रूप में धारण करते हुए और अग्नि को जन्म देते हुए फैले, तब उसी से देवों का एकमात्र प्राण प्रकट हुआ — हम किस देवता को हवि देकर पूजें?

When the great waters came, carrying the All as an embryo and giving birth to Agni, the one life-breath of the gods arose from that. To which god should we offer worship with our oblation?

यश्चि॒दापो॑ महि॒ना प॒र्यप॑श्य॒द्दक्षं॒ दधा॑ना ज॒नय॑न्तीर्य॒ज्ञम् ।यो दे॒वेष्वधि॑ दे॒व एक॒ आसी॒त्कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम

जिसने अपनी महिमा से उन जलों को चारों ओर से देखा, जो बल को धारण किए हुए थे और यज्ञ को जन्म दे रहे थे; जो देवों के भी ऊपर एकमात्र देव था — हम किस देवता को हवि देकर पूजें?

By his greatness he looked out even over the waters as they carried creative power and gave birth to the sacrifice. He was the one god above the gods. To which god should we offer worship with our oblation?

मा नो॑ हिंसीज्जनि॒ता यः पृ॑थि॒व्या यो वा॒ दिवं॑ स॒त्यध॑र्मा ज॒जान॑ ।यश्चा॒पश्च॒न्द्रा बृ॑ह॒तीर्ज॒जान॒ कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम

वह हमें हानि न पहुँचाए — जो पृथ्वी का जनक है, और जिस सत्यधर्मा ने आकाश को उत्पन्न किया; और जिसने चमकते विशाल जलों को जन्म दिया — हम किस देवता को हवि देकर पूजें?

May he not harm us, he who fathered the earth, or who, true to his laws, fathered heaven, and who fathered the bright, great waters. To which god should we offer worship with our oblation?

प्रजा॑पते॒ न त्वदे॒तान्य॒न्यो विश्वा॑ जा॒तानि॒ परि॒ ता ब॑भूव ।यत्का॑मास्ते जुहु॒मस्तन्नो॑ अस्तु व॒यं स्या॑म॒ पत॑यो रयी॒णाम्

हे प्रजापति! तुम्हारे सिवा कोई दूसरा इन सब उत्पन्न वस्तुओं को घेरे हुए नहीं है। जिस कामना से हम तुम्हें हवि देते हैं, वह हमें मिले; हम धनों के स्वामी हों।

Prajāpati, no one other than you encompasses all these things that have been born. May we get what we want when we offer to you. May we be lords of riches.
