इन्द्रः

इन्द्रं॑ म॒तिर्हृ॒द आ व॒च्यमा॒नाच्छा॒ पतिं॒ स्तोम॑तष्टा जिगाति ।या जागृ॑विर्वि॒दथे॑ श॒स्यमा॒नेन्द्र॒ यत्ते॒ जाय॑ते वि॒द्धि तस्य॑

हृदय से निकलकर, स्तुति के रूप में गढ़ी हुई यह मति अपने स्वामी इन्द्र की ओर जाती है। जो मति यज्ञसभा में कही जाती हुई जागती रहती है — हे इन्द्र, जो तेरे लिए उत्पन्न होती है, उसे तू जान।

The thought goes out from the heart toward Indra, the lord, spoken aloud and shaped into a praise song. It stays wakeful as it is recited at the ritual gathering. Indra, take note of what is born for you.

दि॒वश्चि॒दा पू॒र्व्या जाय॑माना॒ वि जागृ॑विर्वि॒दथे॑ श॒स्यमा॑ना ।भ॒द्रा वस्त्रा॒ण्यर्जु॑ना॒ वसा॑ना॒ सेयम॒स्मे स॑न॒जा पित्र्या॒ धीः

द्युलोक से भी पहले उत्पन्न हुई, जागती हुई, यज्ञसभा में कही जाती हुई, कल्याणकारी उज्ज्वल श्वेत वस्त्र पहने हुए — यही हमारी पुरानी, पितरों से चली आई धी (स्तुति-बुद्धि) है।

Born of old, even from heaven, and wakeful as it is recited at the ritual gathering, it wears fine, bright clothes. This is our age-old insight, inherited from our fathers.

य॒मा चि॒दत्र॑ यम॒सूर॑सूत जि॒ह्वाया॒ अग्रं॒ पत॒दा ह्यस्था॑त् ।वपूं॑षि जा॒ता मि॑थु॒ना स॑चेते तमो॒हना॒ तपु॑षो बु॒ध्न एता॑

यहाँ जुड़वाँ जनने वाली माता ने जुड़वाँ सन्तान जनी; जीभ का अगला सिरा उड़कर ऊपर टिक गया। जोड़े के रूप में उत्पन्न वे दोनों सुन्दर रूप धारण करते हैं; अन्धकार को मारने वाले वे तपते (सूर्य) के मूल तक पहुँच गए।

Here the mother of twins has given birth to twins. The tip of the tongue has flown up and taken its stand. As soon as they are born, the paired twins take on beautiful forms. These dispellers of darkness have come to the base of the blazing heat.

नकि॑रेषां निन्दि॒ता मर्त्ये॑षु॒ ये अ॒स्माकं॑ पि॒तरो॒ गोषु॑ यो॒धाः ।इन्द्र॑ एषां दृंहि॒ता माहि॑नावा॒नुद्गो॒त्राणि॑ ससृजे दं॒सना॑वान्

मनुष्यों में कोई इनकी निन्दा करने वाला नहीं — ये हमारे पितर, जो गौओं के लिए लड़ने वाले थे। महिमावान् इन्द्र ही इनका बल बढ़ाने वाला है; उस अद्भुत कर्म वाले ने गौओं के बाड़े खोल दिए।

No one among mortals finds fault with our fathers, who fought for the cows. Mighty Indra made them strong; the wonder-worker opened the cow-pens and let them out.

सखा॑ ह॒ यत्र॒ सखि॑भि॒र्नव॑ग्वैरभि॒ज्ञ्वा सत्व॑भि॒र्गा अ॑नु॒ग्मन् ।स॒त्यं तदिन्द्रो॑ द॒शभि॒र्दश॑ग्वैः॒ सूर्यं॑ विवेद॒ तम॑सि क्षि॒यन्त॑म्

जहाँ सखा इन्द्र अपने सखा नवग्वों के साथ, घुटनों के बल चलते योद्धाओं के साथ गौओं के पीछे गया — यह सत्य है कि इन्द्र ने दस दशग्वों के साथ अन्धकार में छिपे सूर्य को पा लिया।

There the companion, together with his companions the Navagvas, went on his knees and followed the cows with his warriors. It is true: Indra, with the ten Dashagvas, found the sun living in darkness.

इन्द्रो॒ मधु॒ सम्भृ॑तमु॒स्रिया॑यां प॒द्वद्वि॑वेद श॒फव॒न्नमे॒ गोः ।गुहा॑ हि॒तं गुह्यं॑ गू॒ळ्हम॒प्सु हस्ते॑ दधे॒ दक्षि॑णे॒ दक्षि॑णावान्

इन्द्र ने गौ में इकट्ठा हुआ मधु पा लिया — पैरों वाली, खुरों वाली गौ के भीतर छिपे स्थान में। गुप्त स्थान में रखा, छिपा हुआ, जल में गूढ़ उस धन को उस दक्षिणावान् ने अपने दाहिने हाथ में ले लिया।

Indra found the honey stored in the ruddy cow, and what has feet and hooves in the cow's pasture. With his right hand the generous one grasped what was set in secret, hidden and concealed in the waters.

ज्योति॑र्वृणीत॒ तम॑सो विजा॒नन्ना॒रे स्या॑म दुरि॒ताद॒भीके॑ ।इ॒मा गिरः॑ सोमपाः सोमवृद्ध जु॒षस्वे॑न्द्र पुरु॒तम॑स्य का॒रोः

विवेक करते हुए उसने अन्धकार से अलग करके ज्योति को चुना। संकट जब पास आए तब भी हम उससे दूर रहें। हे सोमपान करने वाले, सोम से बढ़े हुए इन्द्र, इस बहुत-कुछ रचने वाले स्तोता की इन वाणियों को स्वीकार कर।

Discerning, he chose light out of darkness. May we be far from misfortune when we meet you. Indra, soma-drinker strengthened by soma, enjoy these songs of your foremost poet.

ज्योति॑र्य॒ज्ञाय॒ रोद॑सी॒ अनु॑ ष्यादा॒रे स्या॑म दुरि॒तस्य॒ भूरेः॑ ।भूरि॑ चि॒द्धि तु॑ज॒तो मर्त्य॑स्य सुपा॒रासो॑ वसवो ब॒र्हणा॑वत्

यज्ञ के लिए दोनों लोकों में ज्योति फैले; हम बहुत-से संकटों से दूर रहें। हे वसुओं, प्रयत्न करने वाले मनुष्य को उसके बहुत-से (धन) तक बलपूर्वक अच्छी तरह पार पहुँचाने वाले बनो।

May light spread across heaven and earth for the sacrifice. May we be far from great misfortune. For you, Vasus, with your overpowering force, are good at bringing us across even the great hostility of an aggressive mortal.

शु॒नं हु॑वेम म॒घवा॑न॒मिन्द्र॑म॒स्मिन्भरे॒ नृत॑मं॒ वाज॑सातौ ।शृ॒ण्वन्त॑मु॒ग्रमू॒तये॑ स॒मत्सु॒ घ्नन्तं॑ वृ॒त्राणि॑ सं॒जितं॒ धना॑नाम्

इस संग्राम में, धन जीतने के लिए, हम कल्याण के निमित्त मघवान् और अत्यन्त वीर इन्द्र को बुलाएँ — जो सुनने वाला और उग्र है, जो युद्धों में रक्षा करता है, शत्रुओं को मारता है और धनों को जीत लेता है।

In this contest, at the winning of the prize, let us call for success on bounteous Indra, the most manly. He is the strong one who listens and helps in battles, who smashes obstacles and wins riches.
