स्वर्ग के लिए अज-यज्ञGoat offering for heaven

अजो ह्य् अ᳙ग्नेर् अजनिष्ट शोकात् सो अपश्यज् जनितारम् अग्रे ।तेन देवा देवताम् अग्रा आयन् तेन रोहान् रुरुहुर् मेध्यासः

अज (बकरा) अग्नि की ज्वाला से उत्पन्न हुआ; उसने आरम्भ में अपने जनक को देखा। उसी के द्वारा देवता पहले देवत्व को पहुँचे, उसी के द्वारा यज्ञ के योग्य जन ऊँचाइयों पर चढ़े।

The goat was born from the blaze of Agni; in the beginning it saw its begetter. Through it the gods first reached godhead, and through it those fit for sacrifice climbed the heights.

क्रमध्वम् अग्निना नाकम् उख्यान् हस्तेषु बिभ्रतः ।दिवस् पृष्ठं स्व᳙र् गत्वा मिश्रा देवेभिर् आध्वम्

हाथों में उखा-पात्र की अग्नियाँ लिए, अग्नि के साथ नाक (स्वर्ग-लोक) की ओर पग बढ़ाओ। द्युलोक की पीठ पर, स्वर् में पहुँचकर देवों के साथ मिलकर बैठो।

Stride with Agni to the firmament, carrying the pot-fires in your hands. Having reached the back of the sky, the realm of light, sit down among the gods.

पृष्ठात् पृथिव्या अहम् अन्तरिक्षम् आरुहम् अन्तरिक्षाद् दिवम् आरुहम् ।दिवो नाकस्य पृष्ठात् स्व᳙र् ज्योतिर् अगाम् अहम्

पृथ्वी की पीठ से मैं अन्तरिक्ष पर चढ़ा, अन्तरिक्ष से द्युलोक पर चढ़ा। द्युलोक के नाक की पीठ से मैं स्वर्, ज्योति तक पहुँच गया।

From the back of the earth I climbed to the midspace; from the midspace I climbed to the sky. From the back of the sky's firmament I went to the realm of light, to the light itself.

स्व᳙र् यन्तो नापेक्षन्त आ द्यां रोहन्ति रोदसी ।यज्ञं ये विश्वतोधारं सुविद्वांसो वितेनिरे

स्वर् की ओर जाते हुए वे पीछे नहीं देखते; वे दोनों लोकों से होकर द्युलोक पर चढ़ते हैं — वे भली-भाँति जानने वाले, जिन्होंने चारों ओर धारा बहाने वाला यज्ञ फैलाया।

Going to the realm of light, they do not look back; they climb to the sky through both worlds — those well-knowing ones who spread out the sacrifice that streams in every direction.

अग्ने प्रेहि प्रथमो देवतानां चक्षुर् देवानाम् उत मानुषानाम् ।इयक्षमाणा भ्ŕ̥गुभिः सजोषाः स्व᳙र् यन्तु यजमानाः स्वस्ति

हे अग्नि, देवताओं में प्रथम होकर आगे चलो, तुम देवों और मनुष्यों की आँख हो। यज्ञ करने की इच्छा वाले, भृगुओं के साथ एकमत यजमान कुशलपूर्वक स्वर् को जाएँ।

Agni, go ahead as the first of the deities, the eye of gods and of men. May the sacrificers, eager to worship and in accord with the Bhrigus, go safely to the realm of light.

अजम् अनज्मि पयसा घृतेन दिव्यं सुपर्नं पयसं बृहन्तम् ।तेन गेष्म सुकृतस्य लोकं स्व᳙र् आरोहन्तो अभि नाकम् उत्तमम्

मैं अज का दूध और घी से अभिषेक करता हूँ — जो दिव्य सुपर्ण है, दूध से भरा और विशाल है। उसके द्वारा हम स्वर् पर चढ़ते हुए उत्तम नाक की ओर, सुकृत के लोक को जाएँ।

I anoint the goat with milk and ghee — the heavenly eagle, rich in milk, great. Through it may we go to the world of good deeds, climbing to the realm of light, to the highest firmament.

पञ्चौदनं पञ्चभिर् अङ्गुलिभिर् दर्व्योद्धर पञ्चधैतम् ओदनम् ।प्राच्यां दिशि शिरो अजस्य धेहि दक्षिणायां दिशि दक्षिणं धेहि पार्श्वम्

पाँच ओदन वाले इस भात को पाँच उँगलियों से, करछी से पाँच भागों में निकालो। पूर्व दिशा में अज का सिर रखो, दक्षिण दिशा में दाहिना पार्श्व रखो।

With the ladle and your five fingers, take out this five-portion rice in five parts. In the eastern quarter set the goat's head; in the southern quarter set its right side.

प्रतीच्यां दिशि भसदम् अस्य धेह्य् उत्तरस्यां दिश्य् उत्तरं धेहि पार्श्वम् ।ऊर्ध्वायां दिश्य् अ᳙जस्यानूकं धेहि दिशि ध्रुवायां धेहि पाजस्य᳙म् अन्तरिक्षे मध्यतो मध्यम् अस्य

पश्चिम दिशा में इसका पिछला भाग रखो, उत्तर दिशा में बायाँ पार्श्व रखो। ऊर्ध्व दिशा में अज की रीढ़ रखो, ध्रुव दिशा में इसका पाजस्य रखो, और अन्तरिक्ष में बीच में इसका मध्य भाग।

In the western quarter set its rump; in the northern quarter set its left side. In the upward quarter set the goat's backbone, in the fixed quarter its pājasya, and in the midspace, at the centre, its middle.

शृतम् अजं शृतया प्रोर्णुहि त्वचा सर्वैर् अङ्गैः संभृतं विश्वरूपम् ।स उत् तिस्ठेतो अभि नाकम् उत्तमं पद्भिश् चतुर्भिः प्रति तिष्ठ दिक्षु

पके हुए अज को पकी हुई खाल से ढक दो — सब अंगों से जुड़ा हुआ, सर्वरूप। (अब अज से:) तुम यहाँ से उठकर उत्तम नाक की ओर जाओ, और चारों पैरों से दिशाओं में स्थिर खड़े हो।

Cover the cooked goat with its cooked skin, put together with all its limbs, taking every form. (To the goat:) Rise up from here to the highest firmament, and stand firm on four feet in the quarters.
