स ध्रुवां दिशम् अनु व्य् अ᳙चलत् ।[१] तं भूमिश् चाग्निश् चौषधयश् च वनस्पतयश् च वानस्पत्याश् च वीरुधश् चानुव्य᳙चलन् ।[२] भूमेश् च वै सो᳙ ऽग्नेश् चौषधीनां च वनस्पतीनां च वानस्पत्यानां च वीरुधां च प्रियं धाम भवति य एवं वेद ॥१॥ [३]

वह (व्रात्य) ध्रुव दिशा की ओर चल पड़ा; उसके पीछे भूमि, अग्नि, ओषधियाँ, वनस्पतियाँ, वनस्पतियों से उपजी वस्तुएँ और लताएँ चलीं। जो ऐसा जानता है, वह भूमि, अग्नि, ओषधियों, वनस्पतियों, वनस्पतियों से उपजी वस्तुओं और लताओं का प्रिय धाम बन जाता है।

He moved out toward the fixed quarter, and Earth, Agni, the herbs, the trees, the things that come from trees, and the creeping plants moved after him. Whoever knows this becomes the dear abode of Earth, Agni, the herbs, the trees, the things from trees, and the creeping plants.

स ऊर्ध्वां दिशम् अनु व्य् अ᳙चलत् ।[४] तम् ऋतं च सत्यं च सूर्यश् च चन्द्रश् च नक्षत्राणि चानुव्य᳙चलन् ।[५] ऋतस्य च वै स सत्यस्य च सूर्यस्य च चन्द्रस्य च नक्षत्राणां च प्रियं धाम भवति य एवं वेद ॥२॥ [६]

वह ऊर्ध्व दिशा की ओर चल पड़ा; उसके पीछे ऋत, सत्य, सूर्य, चन्द्र और नक्षत्र चले। जो ऐसा जानता है, वह ऋत, सत्य, सूर्य, चन्द्र और नक्षत्रों का प्रिय धाम बन जाता है।

He moved out toward the upward quarter, and Order, Truth, the Sun, the Moon and the stars moved after him. Whoever knows this becomes the dear abode of Order, Truth, the Sun, the Moon and the stars.

स उत्तमां दिशम् अनु व्य् अ᳙चलत् ।[७] तम् ŕ̥चश् च सामानि च यजूंषि च ब्रह्म चानुव्य᳙चलन् ।[८] ऋचां च वै स साम्नां च यजुषां च ब्रह्मणश् च प्रियं धाम भवति य एवं वेद ॥३॥ [९]

वह उत्तम (सबसे ऊँची) दिशा की ओर चल पड़ा; उसके पीछे ऋचाएँ, साम, यजुस् और ब्रह्म चले। जो ऐसा जानता है, वह ऋचाओं, सामों, यजुओं और ब्रह्म का प्रिय धाम बन जाता है।

He moved out toward the highest quarter, and the verses, the chants, the sacrificial formulas and the brahman moved after him. Whoever knows this becomes the dear abode of the verses, the chants, the formulas and the brahman.

स बृहतीं दिशम् अनु व्य् अ᳙चलत् ।[१०] तम् इतिहासश् च पुराणं च गाथाश् च नाराशंसीश् चानुव्य᳙चलन् ।[११] इतिहासस्य च वै स पुराणस्य च गाथानां च नाराशंसीनां च प्रियं धाम भवति य एवं वेद ॥४॥ [१२]

वह बृहती (विशाल) दिशा की ओर चल पड़ा; उसके पीछे इतिहास, पुराण, गाथाएँ और नाराशंसी चले। जो ऐसा जानता है, वह इतिहास, पुराण, गाथाओं और नाराशंसियों का प्रिय धाम बन जाता है।

He moved out toward the great quarter, and itihasa, purana, the gathas and the narashamsis moved after him. Whoever knows this becomes the dear abode of itihasa, purana, the gathas and the narashamsis.

स परमां दिशम् अनु व्य् अ᳙चलत् ।[१३] तम् आहवनीयश् च गार्हपत्यश् च दक्षिणाग्निश् च यज्ञश् च यजमानश् च पशवश् चानुव्य᳙चलन् ।[१४] आहवनीयस्य च वै स गार्हपत्यस्य च दक्षिणाग्नेश् च यज्ञस्य च यजमानस्य च पशूनां च प्रियं धाम भवति य एवं वेद ॥५॥ [१५]

वह परमा (सर्वोच्च) दिशा की ओर चल पड़ा; उसके पीछे आहवनीय, गार्हपत्य और दक्षिण अग्नि, यज्ञ, यजमान और पशु चले। जो ऐसा जानता है, वह आहवनीय, गार्हपत्य, दक्षिणाग्नि, यज्ञ, यजमान और पशुओं का प्रिय धाम बन जाता है।

He moved out toward the supreme quarter, and the Ahavaniya, the Garhapatya and the southern fire, the yajna, the sacrificer and the cattle moved after him. Whoever knows this becomes the dear abode of the Ahavaniya, the Garhapatya, the southern fire, the yajna, the sacrificer and the cattle.

सो ऽनादिष्टां दिशम् अनु व्य् अ᳙चलत् ।[१६] तम् ऋतवश् चार्तवाश् च लोकाश् च लौक्याश् च मासाश् चार्धमासाश् चाहोरात्रे चानुव्य᳙चलन् ।[१७] ऋतूनां च वै स आर्तवानां च लोकानां च लौक्यानां च मासानां चार्धमासानां चाहोरात्रयोश् च प्रियं धाम भवति य एवं वेद ॥६॥ [१८]

वह अनादिष्ट (जिसका नाम नहीं बताया गया) दिशा की ओर चल पड़ा; उसके पीछे ऋतुएँ, ऋतुओं से जुड़ी वस्तुएँ, लोक, लोकों में रहने वाले, मास, अर्धमास और दिन-रात चले। जो ऐसा जानता है, वह इन सबका प्रिय धाम बन जाता है।

He moved out toward the unnamed quarter, and the seasons, the things of the seasons, the worlds, the things of the worlds, the months, the half-months, and day and night moved after him. Whoever knows this becomes the dear abode of the seasons, the things of the seasons, the worlds, the things of the worlds, the months, the half-months, and day and night.

सो ऽनावृत्तां दिशम् अनु व्य् अ᳙चलत् ततो नावर्त्स्यन्न् अमन्यत ।[१९] तं दितिश् चादितिश् चेडा चेन्द्राणी चानुव्य᳙चलन् ।[२०] दितेश् च वै सो ऽदितेश् चेडायाश् चेन्द्राण्याश् च प्रियं धाम भवति य एवं वेद ॥७॥ [२१]

वह अनावृत्ता (न लौटने वाली) दिशा की ओर चल पड़ा और उसने सोचा कि वहाँ से वह नहीं लौटेगा; उसके पीछे दिति, अदिति, इडा और इन्द्राणी चलीं। जो ऐसा जानता है, वह दिति, अदिति, इडा और इन्द्राणी का प्रिय धाम बन जाता है।

He moved out toward the quarter of no return, and thought he would not come back from there; Diti, Aditi, Ida and Indrani moved after him. Whoever knows this becomes the dear abode of Diti, Aditi, Ida and Indrani.

स दिशो ऽनु व्य् अ᳙चलत् तं विराड् अनु व्य् अ᳙चलत् सर्वे च देवाः सर्वाश् च देवताः ।[२२] विराजश् च वै स सर्वेषां च देवानां सर्वासां च देवतानां प्रियं धाम भवति य एवं वेद ॥८॥ [२३]

वह दिशाओं की ओर चल पड़ा; उसके पीछे विराज्, सब देव और सब देवताएँ चलीं। जो ऐसा जानता है, वह विराज्, सब देवों और सब देवताओं का प्रिय धाम बन जाता है।

He moved out toward the quarters, and Viraj, all the gods and all the divinities moved after him. Whoever knows this becomes the dear abode of Viraj, all the gods and all the divinities.

स सर्वान् अन्तर्देशान् अनु व्य् अ᳙चलत् ।[२४] तं प्रजापतिश् च परमेष्ठी च पिता च पितामहश् चानुव्य᳙चलन् ।[२५] प्रजापतेश् च वै स परमेष्ठिनश् च पितुश् च पितामहस्य च प्रियं धाम भवति य एवं वेद ॥९॥ [२६]

वह सब अन्तर्देशों (बीच की दिशाओं) की ओर चल पड़ा; उसके पीछे प्रजापति, परमेष्ठी, पिता और पितामह चले। जो ऐसा जानता है, वह प्रजापति, परमेष्ठी, पिता और पितामह का प्रिय धाम बन जाता है।

He moved out toward all the intermediate quarters, and Prajapati, Parameshthin, the father and the grandfather moved after him. Whoever knows this becomes the dear abode of Prajapati, Parameshthin, the father and the grandfather.
