विष्णुः

प्र वः॒ पान्त॒मन्ध॑सो धियाय॒ते म॒हे शूरा॑य॒ विष्ण॑वे चार्चत ।या सानु॑नि॒ पर्व॑ताना॒मदा॑भ्या म॒हस्त॒स्थतु॒रर्व॑तेव सा॒धुना॑

सोम का पान करने वाले, स्तुति पर ध्यान देने वाले महान शूर विष्णु के लिए (और इन्द्र के लिए) तुम लोग स्तुति गाओ। वे दोनों अजेय अपनी महिमा से पर्वतों की चोटियों पर इस तरह जा टिके, जैसे कोई अच्छे घोड़े के सहारे (ऊपर चढ़ जाए)।

Sing out your drink of the soma juice to the great hero Vishnu, who heeds inspired thought, and to Indra: the two who cannot be deceived, who have stood mightily on the ridge of the mountains, as if on a horse that reaches its goal.

त्वे॒षमि॒त्था स॒मर॑णं॒ शिमी॑वतो॒रिन्द्रा॑विष्णू सुत॒पा वा॑मुरुष्यति ।या मर्त्या॑य प्रतिधी॒यमा॑न॒मित्कृ॒शानो॒रस्तु॑रस॒नामु॑रु॒ष्यथः॑

हे इन्द्र और विष्णु, तुम दोनों कर्मशील वीरों की भिड़ंत सचमुच ऐसी ही तेजस्वी होती है; सोम पीने वाला (यजमान) तुम्हारे सहारे संकट से छूट जाता है — तुम उस बाण से बचाते हो जो धनुर्धर कृशानु मनुष्य पर ताने खड़ा है।

Fierce indeed is your onset, Indra and Vishnu, you two who do mighty deeds, and the soma-drinker shields himself from it. You two ward off from the mortal the missile of Krishanu the archer as it is being aimed at him.

ता ईं॑ वर्धन्ति॒ मह्य॑स्य॒ पौंस्यं॒ नि मा॒तरा॑ नयति॒ रेत॑से भु॒जे ।दधा॑ति पु॒त्रोऽव॑रं॒ परं॑ पि॒तुर्नाम॑ तृ॒तीय॒मधि॑ रोच॒ने दि॒वः

ये (स्तुतियाँ) उसके महान पौरुष को बढ़ाती हैं। वह दोनों माताओं को बीज और भोग के लिए नीचे ले आता है। पुत्र पिता के दो नाम — निचला और ऊपरवाला — धारण करता है, और तीसरा नाम द्युलोक के प्रकाशमय स्थान में है।

These increase the manly power of the great one; he leads the two parents down for seed and for enjoyment. The son takes on the lower and the higher name of the father, and the third name in the bright realm of heaven.

तत्त॒दिद॑स्य॒ पौंस्यं॑ गृणीमसी॒नस्य॑ त्रा॒तुर॑वृ॒कस्य॑ मी॒ळ्हुषः॑ ।यः पार्थि॑वानि त्रि॒भिरिद्विगा॑मभिरु॒रु क्रमि॑ष्टोरुगा॒याय॑ जी॒वसे॑

उस बलशाली, रक्षक, किसी को न सताने वाले, उदार (विष्णु) के उन-उन पौरुष-कर्मों का हम बखान करते हैं — जिसने केवल तीन लम्बे डगों से पार्थिव लोकों को नाप डाला, ताकि (प्राणी) खुले विस्तार में जी सकें।

This very manly power of his we praise, the lord, the protector, the one without malice, the generous, who with just three steps has strode widely across the earthly realms, for wide-ranging life.

द्वे इद॑स्य॒ क्रम॑णे स्व॒र्दृशोऽ॑भि॒ख्याय॒ मर्त्यो॑ भुरण्यति ।तृ॒तीय॑मस्य॒ नकि॒रा द॑धर्षति॒ वय॑श्च॒न प॒तय॑न्तः पत॒त्रिणः॑

सूर्य को देखने वाले उस (विष्णु) के दो ही डग मनुष्य देख पाता है और उन्हें देखकर हलचल में पड़ जाता है; उसके तीसरे डग तक कोई नहीं पहुँच सकता — उड़ते हुए पंखवाले पक्षी भी नहीं।

A mortal who looks upon two of the steps of him who sees the sun is stirred into action. But his third step no one dares approach, not even the winged birds in flight.

च॒तुर्भिः॑ सा॒कं न॑व॒तिं च॒ नाम॑भिश्च॒क्रं न वृ॒त्तं व्यतीँ॑रवीविपत् ।बृ॒हच्छ॑रीरो वि॒मिमा॑न॒ ऋक्व॑भि॒र्युवाकु॑मारः॒ प्रत्ये॑त्याह॒वम्

चौरानबे नामों के साथ उसने घूमते पहिये की तरह आने-जाने वाले (काल-चक्र) को कँपा दिया। विशाल शरीर वाला वह स्तोताओं के साथ (लोकों को) नापता हुआ, युवा होकर भी बालक नहीं — ललकार का सामना करने सामने आता है।

With their names, ninety and four together, he has set the racing ones spinning like a round wheel. Huge of body, measuring out the world with those who chant, a youth no longer a child, he comes to the call.
