तेज, आयु और यज्ञ की प्रार्थनाPrayer for splendour, life and sacrifice

घृतस्य जूतिः समना सदेवा संवत्सरं हविषा वर्धयन्ती ।श्रोत्रं चक्षुः प्राणो ऽछिन्नो नो अस्त्व् अछिन्ना वयम् आयुषो वर्चसः

घृत की प्रेरक गति, एकमन और देवों से युक्त, हवि से संवत्सर को बढ़ाती है। हमारे कान, आँख और प्राण अखण्ड रहें; हम आयु और तेज से वंचित न हों।

The quickening of the ghee, of one accord and joined with the gods, makes the year grow through the oblation. May our hearing, sight and breath stay unbroken; may we not be cut off from life and splendour.

उपास्मान् प्राणो ह्वयताम् उप प्राणं हवामहे ।वर्चो जग्राह पृथिव्य् अ᳙न्तरिक्षं वर्चः सोमो ब्ŕ̥हस्पतिर् विधत्ता

प्राण हमें अपने पास बुलाए, हम प्राण को अपने पास बुलाते हैं। पृथिवी ने तेज ग्रहण किया है, अन्तरिक्ष ने, सोम ने, बृहस्पति ने और विधाता ने तेज ग्रहण किया है।

Let breath call us to itself; we call breath to us. The earth has taken hold of splendour, and so have the atmosphere, Soma, Brihaspati and the Disposer.

वर्चसो द्यावापृथिवी संग्रहणी बभूवथुर् वर्चो गृहीत्वा पृथिवीम् अनु सं चरेम ।यशसम् गावो गोपतिम् उप तिष्ठन्त्य् आयतीर् यशो गृहीत्वा पृथिवीम् अनु सं चरेम

द्यावापृथिवी तेज को समेटने वाले बने हैं; तेज लेकर हम पृथिवी पर विचरें। लौटती गायें यशस्वी गोपति के पास आकर ठहरती हैं; यश लेकर हम पृथिवी पर विचरें।

Heaven and earth have become the gatherers of splendour; taking splendour, may we move about the earth. The cows, as they come home, stand by their glorious owner; taking glory, may we move about the earth.

व्रजं कृणुध्वं स हि वो नृपाणो वर्मा सीव्यध्वं बहुला पृथूनि ।पुरः कृणुध्वम् आयसीर् अधृष्टा मा वः सुस्रोच् चमसो दृंहत तम्

बाड़ा बनाओ, वही तुम्हारे पुरुषों का पान-स्थान (या रक्षक) है; बहुत-से चौड़े कवच सिलो। लोहे के अजेय दुर्ग बनाओ; तुम्हारा चमस न रिसे, उसे दृढ़ करो।

Build a pen, for that is your men's drinking-place (or protector); stitch many broad coats of armour. Make forts of iron that cannot be assailed; let your cup not leak—make it firm.

यज्ञस्य चक्षुः प्रभृतिर् मुखं च वाचा श्रोत्रेण मनसा जुहोमि ।इमं यज्ञं विततं विश्वकर्मणा देवा यन्तु सुमनस्यमानाः

यज्ञ की आँख, उसकी अर्पण-क्रिया और उसका मुख—वाणी, कान और मन से मैं आहुति देता हूँ। विश्वकर्मा द्वारा फैलाए गए इस यज्ञ में देव प्रसन्न मन से आएँ।

The eye of the sacrifice, its offering and its mouth—with speech, hearing and mind I make the oblation. May the gods come, well-disposed, to this sacrifice spread out by Vishvakarman.

ये देवानाम् ऋत्विजो ये च यज्ञिया येभ्यो हव्यं क्रियते भागधेयम् ।इमं यज्ञं सह पत्नीभिर् एत्य यावन्तो देवास् तविषा मादयन्ताम्

जो देवों के ऋत्विज् हैं और जो यज्ञ के योग्य हैं, जिनके लिए हवि भाग के रूप में बनाई जाती है—वे सब देव, जितने भी हैं, अपनी पत्नियों के साथ इस यज्ञ में आकर बल से आनन्दित हों।

Those who are the gods' priests and those who are worthy of worship, for whom the oblation is made as their share—may all the gods, however many, come to this sacrifice with their wives and rejoice in their strength.
