वैश्वानरोऽग्नि:

प्र स॒म्राजो॒ असु॑रस्य॒ प्रश॑स्तिं पुं॒सः कृ॑ष्टी॒नाम॑नु॒माद्य॑स्य ।इन्द्र॑स्येव॒ प्र त॒वस॑स्कृ॒तानि॒ वन्दे॑ दा॒रुं वन्द॑मानो विवक्मि

उस सम्राट्, असुर (महान् स्वामी), मनुष्य-जातियों के नायक और अभिनन्दन के योग्य (अग्नि) की स्तुति मैं आगे बढ़कर करता हूँ। बलवान् इन्द्र के कर्मों की तरह ही उसके कर्मों को मैं घोषित करता हूँ — वन्दना करते हुए मैं 'दारु' की वन्दना करता हूँ।

I proclaim the praise of the sovereign lord, the asura, the hero whom the peoples are to cheer, and the deeds of the strong one, which are like Indra's. Paying him homage, I praise and celebrate the breaker.

क॒विं के॒तुं धा॒सिं भा॒नुमद्रे॑र्हि॒न्वन्ति॒ शं रा॒ज्यं रोद॑स्योः ।पु॒रं॒द॒रस्य॑ गी॒र्भिरा वि॑वासेऽ॒ग्नेर्व्र॒तानि॑ पू॒र्व्या म॒हानि॑

कवि, ध्वजस्वरूप, पोषण देनेवाले, पत्थर से प्रकट होनेवाली ज्योति को — तथा दोनों लोकों के कल्याण और राज्य को — (याजक) प्रेरित करते हैं। अपनी स्तुतियों से मैं उस पुरन्दर (किले तोड़नेवाले अग्नि) को अपनी ओर बुलाता हूँ, और अग्नि के प्राचीन महान् व्रतों का कीर्तन करता हूँ।

They spur on the poet, the beacon, the sustainer, the radiance of the rock, the blessing and the king of the two world-halves. With hymns I seek to win the ancient, great ordinances of Agni, the breaker of strongholds.

न्य॑क्र॒तून्ग्र॒थिनो॑ मृ॒ध्रवा॑चः प॒णीँर॑श्र॒द्धाँ अ॑वृ॒धाँ अ॑य॒ज्ञान् ।प्रप्र॒ तान्दस्यूँ॑र॒ग्निर्वि॑वाय॒ पूर्व॑श्चका॒राप॑राँ॒ अय॑ज्यून्

बुद्धिहीन, अटपटी वाणीवाले, अपमानभरा बोलनेवाले, कंजूस पणि, श्रद्धाहीन, किसी को न बढ़ानेवाले और यज्ञ न करनेवाले — उन दस्युओं को अग्नि ने दूर-दूर खदेड़ दिया। वह स्वयं आगे (श्रेष्ठ) होकर उन अयज्ञशील लोगों को पीछे छोड़ दिया।

The Panis are without resolve and close-fisted, speak insultingly, have no faith, do not strengthen the gods and do not offer sacrifice. Agni drove those Dasyus far away. Agni, who comes first, made the ones who do not sacrifice come last.

यो अ॑पा॒चीने॒ तम॑सि॒ मद॑न्तीः॒ प्राची॑श्च॒कार॒ नृत॑मः॒ शची॑भिः ।तमीशा॑नं॒ वस्वो॑ अ॒ग्निं गृ॑णी॒षेऽना॑नतं द॒मय॑न्तं पृत॒न्यून्

जिस अत्यन्त वीर ने अपनी शक्तियों से पश्चिम के अन्धकार में पड़ी हुई उन आनन्दमग्न (उषाओं) को पूर्व की ओर कर दिया — धन के उस स्वामी अग्नि की मैं स्तुति करता हूँ, जो किसी के आगे नहीं झुकता और आक्रमण करनेवालों को दबा देता है।

By his powers, the most manly one turned eastward those who were reveling in the westward darkness. I praise Agni, the lord of goods, who does not bow and who tames those who seek battle.

यो दे॒ह्यो॒३॒॑ अन॑मयद्वध॒स्नैर्यो अ॒र्यप॑त्नीरु॒षस॑श्च॒कार॑ ।स नि॒रुध्या॒ नहु॑षो य॒ह्वो अ॒ग्निर्विश॑श्चक्रे बलि॒हृतः॒ सहो॑भिः

जिसने अपने अस्त्रों से (शत्रुओं की) दीवारों को झुका दिया, जिसने उषाओं को आर्य के अधीन कर दिया — उस बलवान् युवा अग्नि ने नहुष जनों को रोककर, अपने बलों से प्रजाओं को कर देनेवाला बना दिया।

He bent down the ramparts with his deadly weapons and made the dawns have an Arya lord. Youthful Agni hemmed in the clans of Nahus and by his powers made them bring tribute.

यस्य॒ शर्म॒न्नुप॒ विश्वे॒ जना॑स॒ एवै॑स्त॒स्थुः सु॑म॒तिं भिक्ष॑माणाः ।वै॒श्वा॒न॒रो वर॒मा रोद॑स्यो॒राग्निः स॑साद पि॒त्रोरु॒पस्थ॑म्

जिसकी शरण में सब मनुष्य अपनी-अपनी चाल से आकर ठहरते हैं और उसकी कृपा माँगते हैं — वह वैश्वानर अग्नि दोनों लोकों के श्रेष्ठ स्थान पर, अपने माता-पिता की गोद में बैठ गया है।

All peoples have stood in their own ways under his shelter, begging for his favour. Agni Vaishvanara has taken his seat in the choicest place of the two world-halves, in the lap of his parents.

आ दे॒वो द॑दे बु॒ध्न्या॒३॒॑ वसू॑नि वैश्वान॒र उदि॑ता॒ सूर्य॑स्य ।आ स॑मु॒द्रादव॑रा॒दा पर॑स्मा॒दाग्निर्द॑दे दि॒व आ पृ॑थि॒व्याः

सूर्य के उदय होते ही वैश्वानर देव ने गहराई में छिपे धन ले लिए। निकट के और दूर के समुद्र से, आकाश से और पृथ्वी से — अग्नि ने (वे सब धन) ले लिए।

At the rising of the sun, the god Vaishvanara has taken the goods from the depths. Agni has taken them from the lower sea and from the farther one, from heaven and from earth.
