अग्निः

अ॒ग्निं होता॑रं॒ प्र वृ॑णे मि॒येधे॒ गृत्सं॑ क॒विं वि॑श्व॒विद॒ममू॑रम् ।स नो॑ यक्षद्दे॒वता॑ता॒ यजी॑यान्रा॒ये वाजा॑य वनते म॒घानि॑

यज्ञ में मैं अग्नि को होता के रूप में चुनता हूँ — वे निपुण, कवि, सब कुछ जानने वाले और भ्रम से रहित हैं। श्रेष्ठ यज्ञकर्ता वे देव-कार्य में हमारे लिए यजन करें; वे धन और बल के लिए समृद्धि प्राप्त कराते हैं।

I choose Agni as hotar at the ritual meal: the skilled one, the poet, the all-knowing, the one who is never deceived. As the better sacrificer, may he sacrifice for us among the gods. He wins generous gifts for wealth and for victory.

प्र ते॑ अग्ने ह॒विष्म॑तीमिय॒र्म्यच्छा॑ सुद्यु॒म्नां रा॒तिनीं॑ घृ॒ताची॑म् ।प्र॒द॒क्षि॒णिद्दे॒वता॑तिमुरा॒णः सं रा॒तिभि॒र्वसु॑भिर्य॒ज्ञम॑श्रेत्

हे अग्नि, मैं तेरी ओर हविष् से भरी, तेजस्विनी, दान देने वाली और घृत से युक्त (आहुति/जुहू) भेजता हूँ। दक्षिण की ओर घूमता हुआ, देव-कार्य को चुनकर, उसने दानों और वसुओं के साथ यज्ञ को स्थिर किया।

Agni, I send forth to you the ladle, which is full of oblation, bright, generous and dripping with ghee. Moving to the right and making room for the company of the gods, he has joined the sacrifice with gifts and goods.

स तेजी॑यसा॒ मन॑सा॒ त्वोत॑ उ॒त शि॑क्ष स्वप॒त्यस्य॑ शि॒क्षोः ।अग्ने॑ रा॒यो नृत॑मस्य॒ प्रभू॑तौ भू॒याम॑ ते सुष्टु॒तय॑श्च॒ वस्वः॑

वह (यजमान) तेरी सहायता पाकर अधिक तीक्ष्ण बुद्धि वाला होता है; तू उसे अच्छी सन्तान देने वाला उदार (धन) प्रदान कर। हे अग्नि, तेरे वीरतम धन की समृद्धि में हम रहें और तेरे उस वसु के सुस्तोता बनें।

Helped by you with your keener mind, help him in turn to the wealth of good offspring that a generous giver has. Agni, may we live in the abundance of wealth that is richest in men, and may we be your good praisers and share in your goods.

भूरी॑णि॒ हि त्वे द॑धि॒रे अनी॒काग्ने॑ दे॒वस्य॒ यज्य॑वो॒ जना॑सः ।स आ व॑ह दे॒वता॑तिं यविष्ठ॒ शर्धो॒ यद॒द्य दि॒व्यं यजा॑सि

हे अग्नि, यजन करने वाले लोगों ने तुझ देव में अनेक रूप (मुख/ज्वालाएँ) देखे हैं। हे सबसे तरुण अग्नि, तू देव-समूह को ले आ — उस दिव्य गण को, जिसका आज तू यजन करेगा।

For people devoted to sacrifice have placed many faces in you, Agni, the god. So bring here the company of the gods, youngest one, so that today you may sacrifice to the heavenly host.

यत्त्वा॒ होता॑रम॒नज॑न्मि॒येधे॑ निषा॒दय॑न्तो य॒जथा॑य दे॒वाः ।स त्वं नो॑ अग्नेऽवि॒तेह बो॒ध्यधि॒ श्रवां॑सि धेहि नस्त॒नूषु॑

देवों ने तुझे यज्ञ में होता के रूप में अभिषिक्त किया और यजन के लिए (वेदी पर) बैठाया — हे अग्नि, वही तू यहाँ हमारा रक्षक बनकर जाग, और हमारे शरीरों में कीर्ति स्थापित कर।

When the gods anointed you as hotar at the ritual meal and seated you there to perform the sacrifice, then, Agni, be our helper here and take notice of us. Place fame upon our bodies.
