अग्निः

का त॒ उपे॑ति॒र्मन॑सो॒ वरा॑य॒ भुव॑दग्ने॒ शंत॑मा॒ का म॑नी॒षा ।को वा॑ य॒ज्ञैः परि॒ दक्षं॑ त आप॒ केन॑ वा ते॒ मन॑सा दाशेम

हे अग्नि, तुम्हारे पास आने का कौन-सा ढंग तुम्हारे मन को भाएगा, और कौन-सी स्तुति सबसे अधिक कल्याणकारी होगी? यज्ञों के द्वारा तुम्हारे बल तक कौन पहुँच पाया है, और किस भाव से हम तुम्हें हवि अर्पित करें?

What way of approaching your mind will win your favour, Agni? What inspired thought will be most welcome to you? Who has ever reached your power through sacrifices, or with what frame of mind should we make offerings to you?

एह्य॑ग्न इ॒ह होता॒ नि षी॒दाद॑ब्धः॒ सु पु॑रए॒ता भ॑वा नः ।अव॑तां त्वा॒ रोद॑सी विश्वमि॒न्वे यजा॑ म॒हे सौ॑मन॒साय॑ दे॒वान्

हे अग्नि, आओ, यहाँ होता बनकर बैठो; तुम किसी से छले नहीं जा सकते, इसलिए हमारे अच्छे अग्रणी बनो। सब कुछ में व्यापने वाले द्यावा-पृथिवी (रोदसी) तुम्हारी रक्षा करें; देवों का यजन करो, जिससे हमें बड़ी कृपा-दृष्टि मिले।

Come, Agni, sit down here as hotar. Be our good leader, and let no one deceive you. May the two world-halves, which drive all things on, help you. Offer sacrifice to the gods so that they look on us with great favour.

प्र सु विश्वा॑न्र॒क्षसो॒ धक्ष्य॑ग्ने॒ भवा॑ य॒ज्ञाना॑मभिशस्ति॒पावा॑ ।अथा व॑ह॒ सोम॑पतिं॒ हरि॑भ्यामाति॒थ्यम॑स्मै चकृमा सु॒दाव्ने॑

हे अग्नि, सब राक्षसों को भली-भाँति जला डालो और यज्ञों को अभिशाप तथा निन्दा से बचाने वाले बनो। फिर सोम के स्वामी इन्द्र को उनके दो हरि घोड़ों सहित यहाँ ले आओ — उस उदार दाता के लिए हमने आतिथ्य का प्रबन्ध किया है।

Agni, burn up all the rakshasas, and guard the sacrifices against curses. Then bring the lord of soma here with his two bay horses. We have prepared a guest's welcome for this generous one.

प्र॒जाव॑ता॒ वच॑सा॒ वह्नि॑रा॒सा च॑ हु॒वे नि च॑ सत्सी॒ह दे॒वैः ।वेषि॑ हो॒त्रमु॒त पो॒त्रं य॑जत्र बो॒धि प्र॑यन्तर्जनित॒र्वसू॑नाम्

फलदायी वाणी से, अपने मुख से, मैं हवि पहुँचाने वाला होकर तुम्हें बुलाता हूँ; तुम यहाँ देवों के साथ बैठो। हे यजन के योग्य अग्नि, तुम होता का काम भी करते हो और पोता का भी; हे वसुओं के देने वाले और उन्हें उत्पन्न करने वाले, हमारी ओर ध्यान दो।

As the one who carries the offering, I call on you with my mouth, using words that bring offspring, and you sit down here with the gods. You take up the office of hotar and of potar, worthy of worship. Pay attention, giver and begetter of good things.

यथा॒ विप्र॑स्य॒ मनु॑षो ह॒विर्भि॑र्दे॒वाँ अय॑जः क॒विभिः॑ क॒विः सन् ।ए॒वा हो॑तः सत्यतर॒ त्वम॒द्याग्ने॑ म॒न्द्रया॑ जु॒ह्वा॑ यजस्व

हे अग्नि, जैसे तुमने कवियों के साथ स्वयं कवि होकर मेधावी मनुष् की हवियों से देवों का यजन किया था, वैसे ही आज, हे होता, हे सबसे अधिक सत्यवान्, तुम अपनी आनन्ददायिनी जिह्वा से यजन करो।

In the past you offered sacrifice to the gods with the oblations of Manu, the inspired one, a poet among poets. In the same way today, Agni, most true hotar, sacrifice with the ladle that brings joy.
