द्यावापृथिवी

प्र द्यावा॑ य॒ज्ञैः पृ॑थि॒वी ऋ॑ता॒वृधा॑ म॒ही स्तु॑षे वि॒दथे॑षु॒ प्रचे॑तसा ।दे॒वेभि॒र्ये दे॒वपु॑त्रे सु॒दंस॑से॒त्था धि॒या वार्या॑णि प्र॒भूष॑तः

यज्ञों के द्वारा मैं ऋत को बढ़ाने वाले, महान और दूरदर्शी द्यावा-पृथिवी की विदथों (यज्ञ-सभाओं) में स्तुति करता हूँ — जो देवों को पुत्र रूप में रखने वाले और सुन्दर कर्म करने वाले हैं, तथा देवों के साथ मिलकर इसी भाव से (भक्त को) वांछित धन प्रदान करते हैं।

With sacrifices I praise Heaven and Earth at the ritual gatherings: the two great ones, wise, made strong by truth (ṛta). With the gods as their children and wonderful in their skill, they work with the gods and, through their insight, bring out desirable things.

उ॒त म॑न्ये पि॒तुर॒द्रुहो॒ मनो॑ मा॒तुर्महि॒ स्वत॑व॒स्तद्धवी॑मभिः ।सु॒रेत॑सा पि॒तरा॒ भूम॑ चक्रतुरु॒रु प्र॒जाया॑ अ॒मृतं॒ वरी॑मभिः

और इन आवाहनों के साथ मैं द्रोह न करने वाले पिता (द्यौ) के मन का तथा माता (पृथिवी) के महान, स्वयं-बलवान मन का स्मरण करता हूँ। उत्तम बीज वाले इन माता-पिता ने अपने विस्तारों से सन्तान के लिए विस्तृत और अमर सत्ता (लोक) रची।

With my invocations I also think of the mind of the Father, who is free of deceit, and the great, self-powered mind of the Mother. The two parents, rich in seed, have made the world wide with their broad expanses, and immortality for their offspring.

ते सू॒नवः॒ स्वप॑सः सु॒दंस॑सो म॒ही ज॑ज्ञुर्मा॒तरा॑ पू॒र्वचि॑त्तये ।स्था॒तुश्च॑ स॒त्यं जग॑तश्च॒ धर्म॑णि पु॒त्रस्य॑ पाथः प॒दमद्व॑याविनः

वे कुशल कर्म वाले, अद्भुत शक्ति वाले पुत्र (देवगण) अपनी दोनों महान माताओं को सर्वप्रथम जानने-जनाने के लिए (प्रवृत्त हुए)। स्थावर और जंगम के सत्य की रक्षा करते हुए, नियम के अनुसार, हे (द्यावापृथिवी), तुम दोनों अपने निष्कपट पुत्र के स्थान की रक्षा करते हो।

Those sons, skilled and wonderful in their work, gave birth to the two great mothers for the first act of thought. You two guard the truth of all that stands and all that moves, in keeping with its order, and the footprint of your son who has no duplicity.

ते मा॒यिनो॑ ममिरे सु॒प्रचे॑तसो जा॒मी सयो॑नी मिथु॒ना समो॑कसा ।नव्यं॑नव्यं॒ तन्तु॒मा त॑न्वते दि॒वि स॑मु॒द्रे अ॒न्तः क॒वयः॑ सुदी॒तयः॑

उन माया (रचना-शक्ति) वाले, उत्तम बुद्धि वालों ने उन दोनों सजातीय, एक ही उद्गम वाली, युग्मरूप और साथ-साथ रहने वाली (द्यावा-पृथिवी) को नाप लिया। वे तेजस्वी कवि आकाश में और समुद्र के भीतर नया-नया तन्तु फैलाते हैं।

Those wise ones, masters of māyā (wondrous creative power), measured out the twin pair: kin from one womb, sharing one home. Again and again they stretch a new thread, in heaven and within the sea, these brightly shining poets.

तद्राधो॑ अ॒द्य स॑वि॒तुर्वरे॑ण्यं व॒यं दे॒वस्य॑ प्रस॒वे म॑नामहे ।अ॒स्मभ्यं॑ द्यावापृथिवी सुचे॒तुना॑ र॒यिं ध॑त्तं॒ वसु॑मन्तं शत॒ग्विन॑म्

सविता देव की प्रेरणा में हम आज उसी वरणीय दान की कामना करते हैं। हे द्यावापृथिवी, शुभ भाव से हमें धन-सम्पन्न, सैकड़ों गायों वाला ऐश्वर्य दो।

Today, at the urging of the god Savitar, we think of that choice gift. Heaven and Earth, with your kind attention, give us wealth rich in goods and in hundreds of cattle.
