व्रात्य के दिशा-रक्षकThe Vratya's guardians in the directions

तस्मै प्राच्या दिशः ।[१] वासन्तौ मासौ गोप्ताराव् अकुर्वन् बृहच् च रथन्तरं चानुष्ठातारौ ।[२] वासन्ताव् एनं मासौ प्राच्या दिशो गोपायतो बृहच् च रथन्तरं चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद ॥१॥ [३]

उसके लिए पूर्व दिशा से उन्होंने वसन्त के दो महीनों को रक्षक बनाया, और बृहत् तथा रथन्तर को अनुचर। जो ऐसा जानता है, वसन्त के दो महीने पूर्व दिशा से उसकी रक्षा करते हैं, और बृहत् व रथन्तर उसके साथ चलते हैं।

For him, from the eastern direction, they made the two spring months his guardians, and the Brhat and Rathantara his attendants. The two spring months guard the one who knows this from the eastern direction, and the Brhat and Rathantara attend him.

तस्मै दक्षिणाया दिशः ।[४] ग्रैष्मौ मासौ गोप्ताराव् अकुर्वन् यज्ञायज्ञियं च वामदेव्यं चानुष्ठातारौ ।[५] ग्रैष्माव् एनं मासौ दक्षिणाया दिशो गोपायतो यज्ञायज्ञियं च वामदेव्यं चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद ॥२॥ [६]

उसके लिए दक्षिण दिशा से उन्होंने ग्रीष्म के दो महीनों को रक्षक बनाया, और यज्ञायज्ञिय तथा वामदेव्य को अनुचर। जो ऐसा जानता है, ग्रीष्म के दो महीने दक्षिण दिशा से उसकी रक्षा करते हैं, और यज्ञायज्ञिय व वामदेव्य उसके साथ चलते हैं।

For him, from the southern direction, they made the two summer months his guardians, and the Yajnayajniya and Vamadevya his attendants. The two summer months guard the one who knows this from the southern direction, and the Yajnayajniya and Vamadevya attend him.

तस्मै प्रतीच्या दिशः ।[७] वार्षिकौ मासौ गोप्ताराव् अकुर्वन् वैरूपं च वैराजं चानुष्ठातारौ ।[८] वार्षिकाव् एनं मासौ प्रतीच्या दिशो गोपायतो वैरूपं च वैराजं चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद ॥३॥ [९]

उसके लिए पश्चिम दिशा से उन्होंने वर्षा के दो महीनों को रक्षक बनाया, और वैरूप तथा वैराज को अनुचर। जो ऐसा जानता है, वर्षा के दो महीने पश्चिम दिशा से उसकी रक्षा करते हैं, और वैरूप व वैराज उसके साथ चलते हैं।

For him, from the western direction, they made the two rainy-season months his guardians, and the Vairupa and Vairaja his attendants. The two rainy-season months guard the one who knows this from the western direction, and the Vairupa and Vairaja attend him.

तस्मा उदीच्या दिशः ।[१०] शारदौ मासौ गोप्ताराव् अकुर्वं छ्यैतं च नौधसं चानुष्ठातारौ ।[११] शारदाव् एनं मासाव् उदीच्या दिशो गोपायतः श्यैतं च नौधसं चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद ॥४॥ [१२]

उसके लिए उत्तर दिशा से उन्होंने शरद् के दो महीनों को रक्षक बनाया, और श्यैत तथा नौधस को अनुचर। जो ऐसा जानता है, शरद् के दो महीने उत्तर दिशा से उसकी रक्षा करते हैं, और श्यैत व नौधस उसके साथ चलते हैं।

For him, from the northern direction, they made the two autumn months his guardians, and the Shyaita and Naudhasa his attendants. The two autumn months guard the one who knows this from the northern direction, and the Shyaita and Naudhasa attend him.

तस्मै ध्रुवाया दिशः ।[१३] हैमनौ मासौ गोप्ताराव् अकुर्वन् भूमिं चाग्निं चानुष्ठातारौ ।[१४] हैमनाव् एनं मासौ ध्रुवाया दिशो गोपायतो भूमिश् चाग्निश् चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद ॥५॥ [१५]

उसके लिए ध्रुव (स्थिर) दिशा से उन्होंने हेमन्त के दो महीनों को रक्षक बनाया, और भूमि तथा अग्नि को अनुचर। जो ऐसा जानता है, हेमन्त के दो महीने ध्रुव दिशा से उसकी रक्षा करते हैं, और भूमि व अग्नि उसके साथ चलते हैं।

For him, from the fixed direction, they made the two early-winter months his guardians, and the earth and Agni his attendants. The two early-winter months guard the one who knows this from the fixed direction, and the earth and Agni attend him.

तस्मा ऊर्ध्वाया दिशः ।[१६] शैशिरौ मासौ गोप्ताराव् अकुर्वन् दिवं चादित्यं चानुष्ठातारौ ।[१७] शैशिराव् एनं मासाव् ऊर्ध्वाया दिशो गोपायतो द्यौश् चादित्यश् चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद ॥६॥ [१८]

उसके लिए ऊर्ध्व (ऊपर की) दिशा से उन्होंने शिशिर के दो महीनों को रक्षक बनाया, और द्यौ तथा आदित्य को अनुचर। जो ऐसा जानता है, शिशिर के दो महीने ऊर्ध्व दिशा से उसकी रक्षा करते हैं, और द्यौ व आदित्य उसके साथ चलते हैं।

For him, from the upward direction, they made the two late-winter months his guardians, and the sky and Aditya his attendants. The two late-winter months guard the one who knows this from the upward direction, and the sky and Aditya attend him.
